The nineteenth named storm of the busy 2020 Atlantic Hurricane season developed off the southern Florida peninsula. The storm track forecast carries Sally across the southern FL peninsula into the Gulf of Mexico.

Birmingham NWS field office is shifting the flood potential and looking at the situation south of I-20 now, particularly along the I-85 corridor (that’s us). They’re now calling for 4”-8” in East Central Alabama, with locally higher amounts (possibly up to 12”). A Flood Watch has been issued; river and creek flash flooding is possible; a conditional tornado threat is along a line from Selma to Auburn. Winds 15-20 MPH sustained with 30 MPH gusts outside of convective bands; 30-40 MPH in heavier bands.

Due to the slow nature of the Hurricane,
weather analysts are now adjusting futrue rainfall amounts up
to 10 - 30 inches of rain.
Now, add in the Gulf anticipated 'storm surge', and you will find extreme flooding !

Even my wife is taking interest, and all she ever does is complain about the heat six months out of the year. The other six months, she doesn't even ask. She just came in and said, "Well? How's it looking?" She had a customer come in yesterday for an oil change, and the customer told her that she was from Mobile and was forced to evacuate, and her house already had a foot of storm surge water in it when she left. That's the big issue with this storm; not high winds, relatively speaking, but what they're already saying may be historic flooding. It's just moving so slow, it's inundating everything (or will be). I showed my wife the rainfall map. She looked at the line from Mobile to Montgomery to Auburn/Lanett, and she pointed to it and said, "it looks like Hell." I said, it is Hell, and we're in it:

Scary predicted rainfall totals. Can’t recall who was talking about drought conditions in AL a month or so ago. This will make up plenty of deficit, with ominous side effects.

My thoughts and prayers are for those affected. I feel fairly easy about this. My street has a significant hill, as does my dad’s house, so I personally am not concerned for flooding. At the tortoise speed it is traveling I am not electing extreme wins either.

I just noticed at Weather.com that they're forecasting a landing about Mobile Bay Wednesday (AM) morning with winds of 80 MPH.
