The Big Ten’s month of mayhem amid the coronavirus pandemic could be on the verge of a stunning conclusion.
The possibility of a fall football season starting sometime in October has grown ahead of a scheduled Saturday meeting between medical experts and campus leaders, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed to NJ Advance Media. ESPN first reported the medical subcommittee of the Big Ten’s return to play committee will present updates on testing capabilities and other issues to a subcommittee of the league’s council of presidents and chancellors.
If the leadership council signs off on the proposal made by the medical subcommittee, which consists of experts and athletics directors, the entire council of presidents and chancellors could vote on restart plans as soon as Sunday. But there is no guarantee the proposal will move past the subcommittee stage.
If the subcommittee’s proposals - buoyed by unexpected advancements in the availability and efficacy of rapid antigen testing - are rubber-stamped by the campus leaders, the Big Ten could conceivably kick off sometime in mid or late October after its August 11 decision to punt on the season has devolved into complete upheaval.
An Oct. 17 start date would give the conference 10 Saturdays before the College Football Playoff field is selected. There is an industry belief a national title contender like Ohio State would likely need to play its six division games, plus the Big Ten title game, in order to eliminate any concerns about resume inequities compared to ACC, Big 12 and SEC programs, so the conference could look to start later than mid-October.

Just turned on the K-State Arkansas State game. They appear to have about 50% of their stadium capacity filled in Manhattan. Lincoln Nebraska is a little less than a three hour drive from Manhattan. Hey Big 10 pinhead academic leadership, what is different between Manhattan and Lincoln where their kids can be playing football front of fans and our kids are sitting in their bubble wrap safe spaces?

I think they should forego the actual playing of the game of football. Who needs that? Just have all the athletes lock arms while the public address announcer admonishes the crowd for white privilege, racism, black lives matter, etc. Instead of yard stripes paint BLM logos all across the field lest anyone should forget how terrible this country has always been. Have “people of color” sing the black national anthem, while the whites are told to kneel.
This will all be good. The players will then be able to feel at one with their NFL idols. The crowds will scream and holler in delight as their guilt is being purged.
As a bonus, have the local police departments send all their white officers so they can recite the black pledge of allegiance, pledging to refrain from arresting blacks in order to make up for 50,000 years of keeping their foot on the necks of blacks. Crime will go down, and prison populations will shrink. Everyone will feel safer and happier.
Only Trump stands in the way of a more polite society.

I grew up watching football with my dad, which drove my girly-girl mom nuts. I married a football fiend. We dumped the NFL a few years ago. We’ll dump NCAAF, too, if they pull the same ****.
But darn, I love the game and miss watching it with my hubby.
Please, God, let them grow a brain if not a conscience.
Define many. Whenever I used to watch NCAAF I’d often look to see what the majors of the players were. Let’s just say I never found a whole lotta STEM majors on the rosters.
K-State football players did a BLM and “equal rights” and “unity” thing before their game against little Arkansas State, and then proceeded to lose to Arkansas State 35-31. Ha Ha!
If Big 10 plays at all this year it will be thanks to President Trump.
More than half the roster of my son’s team majors in finance, engineering (mechanical, chemical, electrical), business administration, accounting, biology and the like.
