On Friday’s broadcast of HBO’s “Real Time,” host Bill Maher stated that there is a belief “on the far left,” that property destruction “is sort of a justifiable way of protesting and it’s a form of reparations.” And warned that while the belief exists on the far left, beliefs have a tendency to migrate.
Maher said, “When lululemon is saying ‘resist capitalism’ and there’s a book called ‘In Defense of Looting’ and then we had a primary where there was a candidate, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren were talking a lot about a wealth tax and a lot of wealth confiscation, and there’s just a feeling out there now, again, it’s on the far left, but things tend to migrate, but — that property, it’s different than life. And it is different than life. And they kind of compare them like they’re comparable. It’s like, well, if you take somebody’s life, that’s permanent, but if you wreck their business, that can be replaced, and this is sort of a justifiable way of protesting and it’s a form of reparations. … I’m not down with this property’s on the table as something we can just take because things are not right. That’s — to me, that’s not the way to address our problems, by throwing a brick through the window.”

I agree. But I would add that in addition to them being dumb, they are also downright evil.
Property destruction is justifiable and inevitable.

Bill Maher, stepping back across the line, by saying he never crossed it. He wants to appear to have been on the right side when the backlash hits.
And there is a view on the right that looters, arsonists and violent rioters should be shot. Those views are going to come together if the left tries to burn the country down.

This part of his rant is where his newly revealed logic is centered. He sees that the direction of his rampaging bull just might be turning on HIM, his property, and his wealth.
He is only saying this because the burnlootmurder riots are helping Trump. A lot.
While there is a lot to this idea, the devaluing of private property has been greatly exacerbated by the government.
Let me explain. DW and I are small time landlords — bought rental property to provide income in our retirement. Now we all know that there is no one on earth who likes to pay rent, but if someone wants use my private property, they must pay. And just about the only mechanism we have to enforce that payment is the idea that not paying will lead to eviction.
Now along comes the WuFlu crisis and the government declares “no evictions”. They have taken our private property and forced us to house those who will not pay. This severely devalued our property, and has hurt us economically.
Once the government devalues private property, it is easier for rioters and looters to steal and destroy other property.
Do not get me wrong here. Keeping people housed during the WuFlu crisis is an important government objective. But, the way to do it is NOT to force landlords to unwillingly lend money to those with low credit ratings and no resources of their own — it is for the same government that makes the edict to guarantee those loans.
And, don’t think for a second that mortgage forbearance is helping landlords that much. The government hasn’t stopped insisting we pay property tax, maintenance, the water bill, income tax or any of a myriad of other taxes, fees, and costs of regulation. Plus, the management company and the maintenance man still want to be paid. Mortgage payments might be 25% of our total costs.
Once the government says: “We are taking your private property for the common good.” it is a lot easier for leftists to say: “So are we.”
Maher helped create this monster for years and now he wants to act like he’s the aggrieved party?
He can kiss my ass.

Maher wants snarky godless liberalism without the consequences.

Their occupations became their identities and their role in their community.
Western European surnames are often based on occupations: Baker, Butcher, Butler, Carpenter, Cook, Cooper, Fisher, Gardner, Hunter, Mason, Miller, Potter, Smith, Tailor, Wheeler, Wood...Families passed down their customs to the next generation. Towns only had enough population to support a few hunters/fishers and a butcher, a few farmers/gardeners and a cook, a carpenter and a mason, a cooper and a smith, a miller and a baker...
If somebody burned down someone's bakery and they were the only baker in town, their life as "the baker" is gone. Hosting the town's casual meeting place at "the bakery" is gone. Their legacy of passing down the role of "baker" to their children is gone.
People's life work, no, their ancestors' legacy work, is gone when a stranger deems that it's only "property" so it's okay to burn it down for a cause having no relation to the owner.
