Newly released records from the Department of Justice reveal that multiple top members of Special Counsel Robert Muellers investigative team claim to have accidentally wiped data off phones they used during the anti-Trump probe.
Many devices were wiped or otherwise disabled before DOJ authorities were able to access and examine them or the records they contained, including that of disgraced former FBI lawyer Lisa Page.

Trust Sessions!
How do any of the phones described here qualify as evidence by any objective definition?
You can destroy your phone and erase your computer hard drive today, and you arent breaking any laws. Its only a problem if you do this after youve received a warrant or subpoena to turn them over in a legal proceeding.
It would be interesting to find out how the phones were provisioned. Erase data after 10 failed attempts has to be enabled either by the user or provisioning software.
I find it odd the IG did not feel interested in investigating this. Obviously, the fix is in.
Seems likely, but we don’t know for sure. I wonder why Weissman would reset his phone in March and October of 2018. Somebody may be able to piece this together since other info concerning him have been released via FOIA...
So where is Schiff threatening to “investigate” this?
< crickets>
We do in fact get the government we deserve.
As someone said. (attribution is unclear. Some say credit goes to Jefferson others deny he said it.
"When the people fear the government there is tyranny, when the government fears the people there is liberty."
I believe that these phones are government issue and government property for conducting the peoples’ business. As such, they and their contents and the work product they represent, are all the property of the people. Just as the files in your cabinet belong to your employer. Destroying them is clearly an effort to evade accountability and prevent oversight. Speaking as a paperhanger with over 30 years experience, I think they are prosecutable.
Speciation or destruction of potential evidence does not rest in sanctions???
Kudos to the FReeper who early on stated that Mueller’s job was to find and bury the evidence. Time has proven you to be both correct and astute.
Understood. They didnt steal anything (from what I can see), and as attorneys they would have a compelling interest in maintaining confidentiality anyway. Heck Im sure most Freepers would LOVE to know that their attorneys were dumping their phones every few days!
Hey we paid for that investigation. Produce the records, phones, videos etc immediately or go to prison. DOJ get grand jurys now!!!
The charge would not be theft, but destruction of property. It doesn’t belong to them. They can’t shred their documents on the way out the door.
NOBODY IS ABOVE THE LAW unless...??
IT owned and was responsible for hardware and software everywhere I ever worked.
Employees could not download, nor erase company work product
Since the Feral Government is the owner of these phones, don’t they have access to backups?
Talk to someone who knows with more authority than me about deleting information from federal government equipment. You’re not going to believe me. I’m pretty certain this is a Federal offense. I know damn well if anyone in the Trump administration had done it, they’d be headed for jail.
You can destroy your phone and erase your computer hard drive today, and you arent breaking any laws.
YOU can, sure. These government employees doing that to their government issues phones that had data that was owned by the government? That breaks lots of laws, rules and regulations.
You have me mixed up with Alberta’s Child, but I do agree with you about destruction of government property. I want to see more about the cell phone resets. It seems to me it would be in violation of data retention policies, but is it illegal? I don’t know anything about FED IT to pass judgement.
