When I returned my company phone to my last employer the company IT guy wiped it clean and “reset” it. I can’t imagine he would have done that if it violated any kind of company protocol ... and it certainly couldn’t have been illegal on my part.

Talk to someone who knows with more authority than me about deleting information from federal government equipment. You’re not going to believe me. I’m pretty certain this is a Federal offense. I know damn well if anyone in the Trump administration had done it, they’d be headed for jail.
