Jo Jorgensen has better ideas than Trump, Biden: John Stossel

By JOHN STOSSEL

The media obsess about Trump/Biden, but another candidate will be on every state ballot: Libertarian Party nominee Jo Jorgensen.

Dr. Jorgensen, a psychology lecturer at Clemson University, is very different from Donald Trump and Joe Biden. Instead of promising government solutions, she tells people, “You can spend your money better than the politicians.”

I like that.

I start with COVID-19. Libertarians are skeptical of government action, but a pandemic may be the rare situation when government should act. People need protection from contagious people. No one wants medical facilities overwhelmed.

When politicians issued lockdown orders, their actions were praised by most media. “There are no libertarians in a pandemic,” smug people said to me.

Jorgensen says that’s nonsense, that COVID-19 became one more excuse for authoritarian politicians to boss people around.

“Is it right for the government to take away tens of millions of jobs? I say no. Young people could be out there and have no more risks than having the flu.”

If government stepped back, she says, the private sector would lead the way. She points out that Walmart required masks be worn in all their stores. “It shows that, yes, we can be adults without government telling us we need to be adults.”

I tell Jorgensen that my former Fox Business colleague Lou Dobbs calls libertarianism “an absurd philosophy.”

I post this not as an endorsement of Jorgensen, but as a means to ask this question: will her candidacy hurt the President's re-election chances? She is polling in the two to three percent range, a total that could come into play say in a battleground state like Pennsylvania or Wisconsin.

Although Libertarianism has a certain appeal to the individual liberty, small government crowd, it also means not having to take a strong stand on anything.

Name a Libertarian Party office holder.

They are purists, ideologues.

They should run as Republicans, like Rand Paul.

A libertarian caucus in the Republican Party would be a good thing.

The Libertarian candidate will get the same percentage of the vote that Libertarian candidates always get.

Won’t affect the election one way or the other.

There is no point in voting for someone who has absolutely no chance to win unless you’re truly indifferent to the two main candidates. And it’s difficult to see how that could be.

Jo already sold out to BLM, and I’ve already seen a lot of libertarians get red-pilled because of the riots, so I’m less worried about her than Dem mail-in fraud.

The Libertarian Party is total crap and always has been. It’s not a political party, it’s a dumpster fire.

“It shows that, yes, we can be adults without government telling us we need to be adults.”

Has she ever had a real job?

As a species we're poor at holding ourselves accountable. Some of us are good staying on point but most need to be herded, particularly the younger folks who can't set their phones down. The whole design of the checks-and-balances in our system is an acknowledgment that people suck.

The third party vote for Barr, Constitution Party, gave NC to Obama the first election.

Third Parties are spoilers who like to complain.

Libertarians are lazy but like to spout off about how great they are.

They have never worked to build a grass level party - just shooting for the top every 4 years.

Jo Jorgensen is an open borders nutjob.

The freedom to trade and travel are fundamental to human liberty.

Jorgensen thinks anyone should have a right to go anywhere and work anywhere and trade anywhere with no gov’t restrictions.

This plays right into the hands of the global marxists and their dream for a one-world gov’t.

Take it from a former Libertarian Party member, it will hurt Trump not Biden. Look at the big donors to the LP and you will find the real power.

Interesting. It’s psychologists who are in the forefront of wrecking our society. These are the birds who come up with the crazy social theories we see playing out right now. I’d never vote for anyone who have been brainwashed with psych mumbo-jumbo.

Correct. Stossel’s brand of ‘do you own thing’ Libertarianism - the kind without rules - can be a short, slippery slope toward anarchy.
