Evacuating people from a fire is problematic if there’s no direct threat to life; people have a big habit of wanting to bring everything with them (so it doesn’t get destroyed by the fire.)

Plus, rationally, in many conditions you can drive through a fire (not really recommended.) Which means that likely fire apparatus is already on scene to offer support to the people trapped. And likely evacuate a couple people in sheriff’s vehicles who have breathing issues.

Oh yeah, and COVID, which always makes things so much less complicated...

One of the california Alert Wildfire cameras is pointed towards it (updates automatically every minute or so. And you can click the play arrow in the upper left to get a timelapse).

#CreekFire: Viewer Cameron Colombero sent in these photos from Mammoth Pool. There are reports of people trapped there. Cameron says he about 100 people are at the water edge. They are safe & the fire ran out of fuel. He says the fires burned around the entire lake in 45 mins.

“Air Drop a bunch of inflatable rafts.”

No, you’re not understanding the situation. They said get IN the lake, not on the lake. You’re not going to survive a fire storm by floating in a raft made of flammable material.

“Not to make light of a terrible situation, but I’d get in the water...”

Not exactly sure where in the Mammoth area this is but some of these pools are volcanic heated water. There is no going in. I had a buddy spend six weeks in a So Cal burn unit about 35 years back from falling into one of the heated Mammoth pools.

Not in Mammoth Lakes, on the other side of the Sierra about 50 miles west of there.

“Not in Mammoth Lakes, on the other side of the Sierra about 50 miles west of there”

OK, that is good news. Now that I think about it a dozen years ago or so Huell Howser from California PBS TV did one of his California Gold shows from this area.

Wind are generally light; https://www.wrh.noaa.gov/map/?obs=true&wfo=vef It's a relatively safe time to burn compared to later in the season. The problem, as usual, is too little fire, not too much.

Airdrop fireproof blankets. I know they have special cover up blankets for fires.
