I owe FR most everything I know about the multi faceted world of conservatism. In addition I learned what true research is, sorting the BS from the real stuff and on and on.The lessons here are endless. FRiends are the best of the best.
I arrived here in 2004 fresh from 20 years of talk radio, 30 years of print in the world of fishing and 34 years in small business.I quickly learned I didn't know anything!
A good friend on TV in Miami told me if you go there,FR,you will never look back.He was right.
Thanks to Jim and so many Freepers I can't mention them all many of us have learned what goes on behind the mirror. Some Freepers are at the point where issues that come up and ordinarily would be extremely complex yet are common place for us. It's hard to imagine what we take for granted. Many here are so far advanced in the world of politics it can boggle the mind.
What you can learn here is beyond any college or grad school out there,it's priceless.

"I was on that thread debunking Rather."So was I.
Were you also on the live thread tracking the Space Shuttle Columbia when it blew up? People being able to locate where pieces of it fell to earth. That was such a horrible and sad time.

I lurked for a long time—all during the Clinton impeachment and before. Never would have made it with out reading all the FR posts. Especially appreciated Alamo Girl’s data.
Finally joined in 2000. Mostly just a reply now and then, until Red Devil_32 needed someone to take over posting the garden thread.
This format is truly the best I’ve ever found on the Web. Thanks Jim Robinson for creating this site.

Thanks for posting this great LS article! Lots of memories in there, spanning several "screen names".
:-) This old song seemed to fit the mood here, so I hope I can sneak it in here, without getting into too much trouble!

Hey Jane, thanks for the note.
In the article at the top of this thread, I am described as
a driving force behind the creation of Free Republic.
Jim, John, and I are mentioned. Jim and John should have
been.
I have not been Jim’s business partner at any time, and it
is kind of embarrassing to get credit where credit is not
due.
I have known Jim since the early to mid 90s when we met
and participated on AOL’s White Water Bulletin Board.
Jim wanted to create an entity like F. R., and he and
John set out to do so. I do not deserve even an
honorable mention, and to let this stand, would be
dishonorable for me.
LS probably heard this through the grapevine, but if so
it was like the old game, “Post Office” grapevine.
I’m sure it was an honest telling, with no ill intent.

It used to be that html-based posts (i.e., not plain text) required </> tags to turn off bold, italics, and other html formats. If the poster did not include the off tag, "</>" the format would carry over into subsequent posts (such as "<i>" for italics on and "</i>" for italics off).
Drove everyone nuts, but it's also the origin of the </> meme, such as "/sarcasm."
I learned basic html here at FR, which has served me well ever since.
