Oh, and lest we forget, Pearl Harbor was a LIHOP/MIHOP by FDR who was a closet warmonger neocon... (/weapons-grade snarcasm)

I hear you. The point is what other country would do what we did? Yet we’re still reviled around the world.

Comes with the territory of being The Big Dog.

Thanks for posting. The September 2020 issue of the American Legion Magazine has a photograph of the signing on the Missouri on its cover. The now forgotten September 2nd date was celebrated immediately after and was was being observed as the day WWII ended but it’s no longer being done as well as the 1700s September day, the day after, when the Paris Accord Treaty was signed and the world recognized the United States as a country.

Got me thinking, next year on September 11th, will be the 20th Anniversary, I hope Trump is President for that, because the Democrats will probably ignore it.

When Bernie Sanders was mayor of Burlington, VT, he had the “atrocity” version of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on display at City Hall one Summer.

A small business owner across the street, a WWII vet, put up a small display of Nanking and other such Japanese actions in protest of Sanders’ one-sided view.

The USN & USAF had everything up in the air over Tokyo Bay in a show of force as well.

Thanks for that link .. downloaded and saved it.

For everyone, this link is to a b/w version of the ceremony, but with narration as to who the signatories were as they came to the table to sign.

Darn good thing they didn’t get to Hirohito before he went on the radio. The war probably still would have dragged on. Tojo wanted to assassinate him.

I think it was meant more as a message to Stalin.

The greatest generation won Europe and Japan, but lost America. They raised the baby boomers (poorly), leading to the worst generation readily absorbing all anti-American propaganda that was generated by post-war post-modern neo-Marxist ideologies, and wrecked the moral foundation of the country.

The greatest generation won the world war but lost the battle for America.

from Wikipedia: The politically powerful Lord Privy Seal, Marquis Kōichi Kido spread the word that the Emperor no longer supported Tojo.[95] After the fall of Saipan, he was forced to resign on July 18, 1944.[97]" Tojo was no longer Prime Minister after July, 1944. I'm sure that he still had 'influence' within the IJA. I never read anything to suggest that he was involved in the attempted Putsch to prevent a surrender.

Heh...
After 45 Japanese cities had been firebombed, and the first nuke didn't convinced them, the second one did most of the job. One wasn't enough.
The night the surrender (prerecorded by Hirohito) was supposed to be broadcast to all Japanese forces, a group of young fanatic officers tried to arrest the Emperor and stop the records (literally the only way to reach all Japanese forces was to send out records to be broadcast using all available means to all theaters and ships) from being sent.
A fortuitous overflight of US planes caused a defensive power blackout, the young fanatics got lost in the darkness of the palace, and failed. So they all did the harakiri.
But droppin' those nuclear bombs was completely unnecessary, and an invasion of the home islands was preferable. /sarc

Their mistake was in raising so many of them to vote Democrat. The Demagogic Party had attracted the big-fist-government fans who admired Stalin, and that includes cabinet member, FDR's second VP, 1944 Presidential candidate (and nearly President; he was forced off the ticket in1944 and Truman took his place) Henry Wallace.

Also, they wanted to copy a winner, so they copied the US after WW II. Deming wasn’t listened to in the US, but he was highly esteemed in Japan. Toyota Production System? Deming’s ideas adapted by the Japanese.

I've said in the past that we won the war, but they won the peace.

In my early career I lost two jobs to Japanese competition, I was much more impressed than angry, they beat us fair and square, at our own game!
