The greatest generation won Europe and Japan, but lost America. They raised the baby boomers (poorly), leading to the worst generation readily absorbing all anti-American propaganda that was generated by post-war post-modern neo-Marxist ideologies, and wrecked the moral foundation of the country.

Their mistake was in raising so many of them to vote Democrat. The Demagogic Party had attracted the big-fist-government fans who admired Stalin, and that includes cabinet member, FDR's second VP, 1944 Presidential candidate (and nearly President; he was forced off the ticket in1944 and Truman took his place) Henry Wallace.
