WESTLAKE, Ohio (WJW) Newly-released video shows a man armed with a machete stealing a dog from a shopper at Crocker Park.
Westlake police say a couple was walking their dogs in the complex on Tuesday night, when they were approached by the suspect carrying the machete.
The couple reported that the man was speaking incoherently and suddenly used the machete to cut one of their leashes and grabbed one of their dogs.
The pet owner tried to negotiate the safe return of his dog, but had to back away when the suspect came toward him with the machete.
The couple retreated and called 911 for help. The woman is heard telling the dispatcher in a frantic voice, Please come, please!
Westlake police officers rushed to Crocker Park and learned the man armed with the machete had released the dog unharmed, but the suspect was now menacing other shoppers, police said.
Officers approached the suspect, identified as Julius Bello, 30, of North Olmsted.
Police said Bello was armed with the machete and a smaller knife. He complied when police told him to drop the weapons.

I work this complex nearly daily as a professional dog walker/sitter. No I am not a gig worker, I own my own company providing these services to the affluent. This is a high-end shopping and residential complex with luxury apartments above the shops. Many occupied by local celebrities and high-end security systems.
Westlake was a sleepy, little, far westside suburb of Cleveland until this complex was built several decades ago. It is a beautiful shopping area and is generally considered extremely safe and secure. The shops are all pet friendly as well as the restaurant patio dining areas.

my family lives right there. I was surprised to read this story
It is pretty safe there, but bad characters do target it from time to time.
“Man armed with machete-stealing dog.”
Fluffy you're on your own!
It’s white racism to own a dog.
This wss reparations.
Another “Milk Dud” feral....only stupider.
Another pair of CC permits to be issued soon?
MS - 13.
It sounds like the guy was out of his mind on drugs.
Second, due to the crowd that lives there...many of the dogs are purebreds or designer dogs. $$$$$.00
I’ve had people in cars drive up and want to chat me up about some cute or beautiful dog I am walking or working with. It seems rude to some folks, but I back far away from the curb. And snap a pic of the vehicle. Some encounters are purely someone admiring an impeccably groomed pup, others set of my creepy senses.
if We start DLM the election is over. Even the Left loves their pets.
I know there are microchips for pets, but I wonder if there will ever be an affordable lo-jack style technology added to the chips so that lost pets can be located within a certain radius (no idea what the range might be). I see lost (or stolen) pet flyers on NextDoor all the time and always wish the pets could be located right away via radio signal.
You have the libs/leftists/DIMs to blame for these situations. In the 1970’s they closed the mental hospitals and asylums proposing that the seriously mentally ill could safely roam through society, have drugs given to them in “community mental health centers” and be just fine. Hello!!! These people are seriously cra-cra and unpredictable. They need to be kept in residential care where they can be safe, get treatment and be fed...and society can be safe. This nis an example of evermore LIB insanity.
bbq or woking the dog
And just like that another dozen applications for Concealed Carry licenses hit the Sheriffs Office.
