Shatner calls for Space Force to follow Star Trek
William Shatner, Star Treks original Captain James T. Kirk, penned an op-ed appearing today in Military Times titled What the heck is wrong with you, Space Force? The issue that the Canadian-born Shatner seems to be most focused on is how the commanders of Naval ships generally hold the rank of Captain, including the real Captain James A. Kirk of the US Navy destroyer USS Zumwalt. But the equivalent Air Force rank is Colonel.

Actually, the Navy has FAR more relevant experience to maintaining crews in tightly enclosed spaces for long periods of time than the Air Force...centuries of it, in fact.

I also have to agree-the Naval ranks seems the best fit-my hubby was career Army, so I have no dog in this fight-just an opinion...

Space Force’s lineage and almost all personnel come from the US Air Force.
They’re not swabbies. Marines don’t have Navy ranks, why should an Air Force based military?
