Hurricane Laura emerged from the Caribbean Sea, leaving behind flooding and fatalities in Hispaniola and Cuba. Former Hurricane Marco dissipated Tuesday morning, a few hours before Laura strengthened to a hurricane.

We "dodged the bullet": Laura veered off to the east of Shreveport, LA -- and, will cross into Arkansas before long.
We had steady winds 30-35 mph -- gusting to 45-50 (based on tree sounds & swaying of treetops). They are now out of the NNW, and diminishing...
We had a few power flickers about noon, but the only "casualty" so far was my wife's umbrella -- which she left open on the porch. I had to go retrieve it (with a few bent ribs) about 100' away.
We had less rain than we normally have with a single strong T'storm. (Just added to the water I put in the canoe to keep it from becoming airborne...)
All in all, anticipation was worse than actual...

The BMX NWS office was only forecasting a 30% of any precip here in East Central, but the watch and warning map is lit up like a Christmas tree now and it appears (on Doppler radar, anyway) that a band is going to sweep through from SW to NE in the next few hours.
Stay alert for tornadoes.

It’s hard to believe 150mph Hurricane left anything at all standing and I saw a lot.

Building codes were really ramped up after Rita.
Most people couldn’t afford to rebuild and moved away permanently.

Was just coming to post that one.

That looks like a tornado within the hurricane that did that.
Laura was basically a miles-wide EF3 tornado.
But some of those houses look like an F5 hit it, others weren’t as badly damaged, that’s why I think there must have been a tornado spawned within the hurricane.
Your average tornado is only hitting a building for a minute or so. The eyewall hit for a much longer duration. Plus, the more damaged houses may not have been as well constructed. My parents built a house in Rockport, TX to cat-4 standards. Thankfully, they moved away long before Harvey, but that house suffered minimal damage.
