RALEIGH, N.C. "I am just kind of shocked," cyclist Michaella Van Maanen said Friday, about 24 hours after a Raleigh man was assaulted on the greenway trail she enjoys.
Raleigh Police Department detectives said Chauncey Weinkoop Depew Jr., 57, died at WakeMed after an assault in the 1800 block of South Saunders Street shortly after noon on Thursday.

This is why I CCW when I am in remote locations, or after dark, walking in town. If attacked, I will defend myself.
RIP Chip. Hope the murderer is caught.

Well, when you go on a national scream-fest to announce that White people are the enemy and are racist and evil, as the Democrats have done, things are bound to get violent.

Exactly. For the above reason, white people must be especially vigilant. Common sense. And this is the reason I may never visit downtown Atlanta, or New York City again. I am, however, allowed to CCW in Raleigh.

It will be interesting to see New York City over the years, as it shrinks to an Eastern port because it has been destroyed.

Murdered because of his imaginary White Privilege, no doubt.

I lived in Raleigh for many decades, since the late 70s when Raleigh was a small, gracious southern city. (I wouldn’t give a plugged nickel for it now, but that’s another story.)
ANYONE with half a brain does not go anywhere near South Saunders Street at anytime of day without being armed.
It’s a very sad story, but better sense in the victim would have avoided this outcome.

We can ccw in Denver but the symphony is the only real reason I would go downtown and the dumbasses installed metal detectors last year. It was safer inside the hall than walking to and from and riding light rail but one cannot reason with Bolsheviks.

I kind of thought that might be the case. Thanks for the local information.

Rapes and armed robberies aren’t rare on the Silver Comet trail west of Atlanta.
Since Plano Texas got a Black mayor, the homeless population has exploded and to use the formerly higly regarded trail and park system is to flirt with being a murder victim.

Come in the south side on 401 many, many times to go downtown.
For a few blocks before and after the 40 overpass it is a tad sketchy.

Best to avoid trouble. I am certainly not a "quick draw" CCW person. I carry strictly for self defense. I would avoid Silver Comet trail in the dangerous areas.

A tad?
Some of those areas rival Newark’s sketchy places.
I’ve been to both.

Was trying to be somewhat polite.
I don’t even stop for gas in daylight at the couple of stations and quick stops in that area.
Capital Blvd north of downtown to the beltway ain’t so nice either.

Damn, you need to check your premises...the man’s been Mayor of Plano since 2013, and a Republican to boot. The problems with crime on the trails and parks originates from the Democrat run city of Dallas.

With all the riff raff,BLM. ANTIFA, etal. I can't see where she is surprised. If I stepped in a yard full of rattlesnakes, it would not surprise me to get bit. Though I have heard people say rattlesnakes won't bite, they also buried them. The number of legs on a rattlesnake is irrelevant, whether 2 or none. Either will kill you equally dead.
