Why I Am No Longer a Social Worker
American Thinker.com ^ | August 22, 2020 | Judith Acosta

It started one ordinary day, in one otherwise ordinary session: A beautiful young woman I had known for a few years wanted to cut off her breasts. (Details changed to protect identity.)

“What happened?” In my mind, the first concern was cancer.

“Nothing. I just hate them. I’d really like to be rid of them. I was just wondering what you thought.”

So I told her. She had a long history of abuse, abandonment, and self-mutilation. Given that, I suggested, didn’t it seem like another aspect of self-hatred and rage? I urged her to take time to really consider all the ramifications -- its effect on her physiology, on her partner, on her children.

She bristled and said I was being unsupportive. I explained I couldn’t be supportive of something that was an extension of existing pathology.

She found another, more supportive therapist, and is now living with the results of her surgery.

That was the beginning of the end for me.

For weeks afterward I found myself fighting off fears of being reported to the licensing board for not agreeing with her and realized, finally, that the whole profession had become a political platform. Therapy had become a form of indoctrination and if you weren’t goose-stepping with whatever was trending, you were truly risking everything.

This is honestly a great loss for everyone because social work had so much promise in its beginnings.

Of course you are correct in a very limited way.

The Constitution specifically empoers the federal government to do only a small number of things and actually forbids more than what it allows.

Your post is an example of one of the powers allowed and no true believer in the Constitution, of which I am one, will disagree.

Hilarious! Full service one-stop-shop for the lovelorn:

I’ve experienced the same thing. Michigan Engineer used to be about young geeks making cool stuff. Now it’s all about climate change, poverty, and diversitaciousness.

Leftism is evil.
It is predicated on irrationality, falsehood, immorality, and hatred.
The sole end of leftism is to destroy everything that God loves.

Your post really makes me wish FR had a Like or Thumbs Up option.
Spot on!
The only addition that I might add is that "Leftism is evil and Satanic."

True but I don’t think that will be coming anytime soon. Seen lots of posts over the years wanting one. The like button here is a reply like yours.

When they’ve got to the infrastructure engineers, I imagine they’ve got to everything.

Physics and gravity are false premises fostered by patriarchy, white supremacy and the “othering” of black and brown bodies. Defund licensing and inspection!

That collapsed bridge in Florida was affirmative action designed

By women. I saved a link to an article about that, but it was scrubbed from the intertubes within days.

The health care industry in which I work is the same way. Accountants and bean counters run it.

It also serves as a major HB1 visa hub.

No offense, but please stop posting this nonsense.

The engineer of record who signed and stamped those design drawings was a guy named W. Denney Pate -- a human being who is about as white and as male as can be in any industry.

In the late 80’s early 90’s engineering was viewed as merely a stepping stone to management, where one is expected to forget everything technical and instead throw MBA word salads. Older engineers, even if they were solving the harder problems, were seen as having lack of ambition since at that point they were supposed to be managers (not even counting being a project lead supervising several engineers and designers, including mentoring the juniors). This was in one of the major engineering and construction companies in the energy industry. One HR drone who was questioning me asked me “Isn’t your career executive or upper management?” When I replied no, it was like I spaketh heresy. Did I make a mistake studying engineering? Should I have stuck with washing dishes?
This was at the height of the yuppie craze. I had moved from the NYC area to Houston, yet there it was. Then again, the company I went to used to have its main engineering office in NYC.
