Joe Biden’s speech managed to be simultaneously vapid and disgraceful; Here's a summary in case you missed it
American Thinker ^ | 08/21/2020 | Andrea Widburg

A weary sounding Joe Biden, who periodically managed to flog himself into a weak and shrill rage, delivered a singularly awful acceptance speech. When it wasn’t hackneyed, he plagiarized ideas and policies from President Trump and made boasts that were inconsistent with his 48 years in politics, whether as a Senator or a Vice President. The worst thing about it, though, was that he repeated a vicious, and unforgivable, slander about Trump.

Here’s a short list of Biden’s platitudes: Trump is darkness. I am light. FDR was a great president. Help young people by ending Trump’s darkness. America is racist. More darkness, more light.

You must judge Trump’s entire presidency by looking at the six months of the Wuhan virus and its damage to the economy (damage wrought, though he doesn’t say it, by Democrat politicians).

America had the worst virus outbreak in the world. (That’s not true, by the way, but it is true that Democrat policies, especially regarding nursing homes, made it horrifically worse than it should have been.) Trump will kill the economy. Trump will take people’s insurance.

Wasn’t Obama great? Trump isn’t great.

No one suffers in America the way minorities do. Trump didn’t protect Americans but I will. It’s horribly painful when people you love die.

I hereby remember that we Americans are endowed, not by “you know, the thing,” but by our Creator with unalienable rights. I’ll quote more from the Constitution because I can: “Among them life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

My Dad was a great guy. He didn’t want the government to solve his problems. I’ll solve all of your problems.

American young people talk to me and I listen. They want all sorts of justice – economic, racial, environmental.

Who cares?

Sloe Joe and the Hoe are not going to the White House!

Nothing he or she can say or do will change that.

There WILL be massive cheating on the part of the Democrats, but it will not be enough to overcome the huge Republican turnout on November 3!

We WILL make America Great Again, Again!

Interesting angle. Definitely could be a double entendre.

Brings to mind how Jimi Hendrix intruduced the song “Machine Gun” at Berkely in 1970: “I’d like to dedicate this one to ... all the soldiers that are fightin’ in Chicago, Milwaukee and New York... Oh yeahs, and all the soldiers fightin’ in Vietnam.”

Trump will need to knock him out. Shirley Trump can do that.
Of course Trump can.

And don't call him Shirley.

Biden can’t hide forever, the dam will break in about 1 month.

I predict that just prior to the first debate on Sept 29th that Biden's handlers will claim the debate must be suspended because of a sudden case of "something."

They will then declare that any and ALL debates leading to the election should be held "virtually", just as the convention was conducted.

My POINT: Biden cannot cognitively compete with ANYONE, let alone Trump in a head to head debate. A "virtual" debate has a controllable factor that doesn't exist on a "live" stage.

These feel more like mind control attempts than speeches.

It was 20+ minutes of him staring straight at the single teleprompter talking in a monotone voice. It was about as exciting as watching a freshly poured concrete slab curing. Totally scripted. Although I don’t know if it was prerecorded or live.

I know Biden can’t debate. His staff and the DNC are feverishly working on their plan to pull him from live debates. I keep saying that the Trump team needs to pound the table on debates and play them up like Ali played up his fights. Get people interested, make it a prize fight atmosphere. Then when Biden pulls out and all of America is wanting this prize fight he looks stupid and weak.

Trump’s challenge, as he tends to opine himself, is to get his points across but keep Biden talking as much as possible to put his illness on display (can we get a non-dementia disclosure?). Biden was spared in the primaries because there were lots of other yappt candidates to divide and limit his speaking time and allow him max respite to gather his mind. Plus Biden has deteriorated even further since then. And Covid gives an out for him to stay underwraps. If Hillary had has this kind of cover and inexposure, she might well have one.

Biden’s never been a mental giant or communicatively astute but he is a shell of what he was in 2008. Not to be taken for granted but exploited.

If Biden can do an in-person interview with Obama, he can show up to debate Trump. The sifference os the former was taped/edited.😉

Kamala Harris checks off so many intersectionality boxes:...She's like an all-in-one-printer. (No, he didn't actually say that last point.)

That he even has to clarify that point! Great recap and analysis

I think you are correct. The Left is not going to allow a live debate with both of them on the same stage, and we should not underestimate the impact that he got through his acceptance speech on a non analytical, emotional squishy middle voter.

You’re right. I think the teleprompter was right in front of him. He looked straight ahead the entire time. He rarely blinked which was strange. He must have rehearsed the speech for hours with a speech coach who told him what to emphasize and when to pause for effect. It was full of platitudes and impossible promises and insults directed at Trump but at least he got through it without screwing it up.

I think Trump needs to up his game. He’s not that great at giving prepared speeches off a teleprompter. He often speaks in a droning monotone as if he can’t wait to get it all over with. And I wish he’d enlarge his vocabulary. I’m getting tired of hearing him say he’s “strong” on everything—wall, virus, foreign policy, economy, etc., etc. Drop the constant boasting and repetitive exaggerations. It’s getting boring and people are tuning it out.
