As a kid in FFA, I ordered 50 from Sears (about 1968 AD).
They send 52, probably in case 2 died, buy I got 52 live.
Hybrid, grew fast for meat; boy they tasted good.

Yikes. We've only lost a hen here and there. We were just given a rooster, but haven't incubated yet.
I definitely prefer mail order and I notice some breeds ship better than others. Learned my lesson buying from Tractor Supply.

That has as much to do with the heat as it does with the postal service delay.
To: McGavin999
People have been doing it for decades.
Works pretty good for newly hatched chicks. Not so great for calves.

I call BS on this story. The proposed changes in post office policy haven’t even been implemented yet.

Only if they are attached to the chicks.

Why? There is more room to put the stamps on calves.

People out here don’t order chicks/other live creatures shipped directly to them-they order the critters through the feed and ranch stores-the chicks are delivered there-but NOT by USPS-you drive there and pick up your poultry-and it is guaranteed to be alive, or you are paid for the loss...
I don’t know anyone who orders chicks to be delivered by USPS any more..
USPS now either drops packages at the edge of the road by your driveway-where they can be run over or stolen-or throws them at your closed gate-I happened to be outside, heard and saw the package I was expecting hit the gate-both of the bottles of perfume I’d ordered were broken-that was months ago-I only use FedEx or UPS now for packages, even when it costs more...

Pingree, a Maine Democrat, is raising the issue of the dead chicks and the losses farms are facing in a letter to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy and U.S. Department of Agriculture Commissioner Sonny Perdue, The Portland Press Herald reported. They never seemed all that concerned in New England when a dead chick was found in a prominent democrats submerged car.

many shippers have a temperature limit for live animals due to poor hold ventilation someone cheated and hoped for the best, blame the desk clerk not USPS.
