WASHINGTON A former F.B.I. lawyer intends to plead guilty after he was charged with falsifying a document as part of a deal with prosecutors conducting their own criminal inquiry of the Russia investigation, according his lawyer and court documents made public on Friday.
The lawyer, Kevin Clinesmith, 38, who was assigned to the Russia investigation, plans to admit that he altered an email from the C.I.A. that investigators relied on to seek renewed court permission in 2017 for a secret wiretap on the former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page, who had at times provided information to the spy agency. Mr. Clinesmiths lawyer said he made a mistake while trying to clarify facts for a colleague.
Mr. Clinesmith had written texts expressing opposition to President Trump, who is sure to tout the plea agreement as evidence that the Russia investigation was illegitimate and politically motivated. Mr. Trump has long been blunt about seeing the continuing investigation by the prosecutor examining the earlier inquiry, John H. Durham, as political payback whose fruits he would like to see revealed in the weeks before the election.
Attorney General William P. Barr has portrayed Mr. Durhams work as rectifying what he sees as injustices by officials who sought in 2016 to understand links between the Trump campaign and Russias covert operation to interfere in the election.

Watching Adam Goldman twist himself into a pretzel to NOT report the fact that the FBI/DOJ lied to the court about Page, saying he was a "was an agent of a foreign power" when in fact he was a "CIA source". It's like watching Circe de Soleil at the peak of their powers.
There's literally 20 paragraphs about Russia, collusion, Mueller, Republicans, Trump, Barr etc. etc. etc. before Adam finally in the 21st paragraph tells you what Clinesmith actually did.
When the New York Times needs twenty paragraphs to prepare their readers to confront the truth ...
then the truth is winning!
You got your scalp, now shut up about it.

“I have to admit I enjoyed every single sentence of this article.”

You should, especially since it’s apparently what the almost 4 years of tick-tocking was all about. Small fish got caught.
“Mr. Clinesmiths lawyer said he made a mistake while trying to clarify facts for a colleague.”
By making it look like THE OPPOSITE of what the original said. Yeah, that’s some real “clarifying”.
OK, this is just the tip of the iceberg. How about those FReepers that keep saying nothing will ever be done???
All the [bleep] that we can print
I didn’t get it. Do you mean Durham got a scalp or the author, or me?
@CBSNews
has learned that after FBI records were declassified by
@DNI_Ratcliffe
last month further implicating Clinesmith, his lawyer approached Durhams office about a deal.

I find the very last paragraph the most significant:
“Mr. Durham, who has previously investigated F.B.I. and C.I.A. abuses, has not tipped his hand at what he has found, though Mr. Barr has said some of the findings are troubling. Mr. Durham has said in a rare statement that he disagreed with some of Mr. Horowitzs conclusions about how and why the F.B.I. opened the inquiry in the summer of 2016.”
Durham appears to have found criminal motive, something Horowitz went out of his way to obscure.
Thank you for enduring the entire article for the rest of us. I started reading at para 21 as you indicated.
As Chuck Berry once sang "It Wasn't Me". I merely said it was painfully slow to wait for justice to be done while lightning fast moving Dems set up an entire impeachment of an innocent man based on a phone call to Ukraine, within a few weeks. And Manafort, Flynn and Stone set up for prison-----but Bill & Hillary and Comey,McCabe,Susan Rice & others are at lavish parties on yachts and enjoying life.
My first thought when I saw the Fox report was: “How many other conspirators is Clinesmith ratting out?”
For all the Barr haters out there — this is a start. It’s far from everything we need, but it’s a start. I remain neutral about AG Barr and Mr. Durham, while hoping they can produce some results, even if those results may not be everything we might wish.
After all, the ending I personally want is to see Hillary, Obama, Schumer, Pelosi, et. al. die miseably in a yet-to-be-built penal colony somewhere in the coldest part of Alaska.
The Ministry of Propaganda and Deep State are hoping this will satisfy us.
Durham gets credit for the scalp.
Tomorrow there will be a development in the case. It's not an earth-shattering development, but it is an indication that things are moving along at the proper pace, as dictated by the facts in this investigation.
Fall guy!!!
Bear catching salmon....
There was a New Yorker cartoon of a frowning mother bear and her cub with salmon leaping. The cub was saying “I want a bagel.”
More like first guy. Comey and others coming up soon.
The heat at Gitmo would be better conditioning for their eventual destination....
It’s way bigger than what you think. The FBI knew Carter Page was a CIA source prior to the 1st FISA application. They were all fraudulent.
Clinesmith was also involved in the Flynn questioning. I figure he is singing like a bird and McCabe is going to go down hard along with others.
That’s nice. Hopefully he spent the last month spilling the beans on everyone else. Note that the NYT piece takes pains to say Clinesmith did provide the unaltered email to the DOJ and that Climnesmith urged the DOJ to send all exculpatory evidence to the person preparing the warrant. The NYT writer probably thinks that’s evidence that no crime was committed, but more likely it’s the basis of a case showing that the recipients of Clinesmith’s emails were in on the crime, and likely that’s the stuff that Clinesmith is cooperating on.
