Former Clinton White House Press Secretary Joe Lockhart told CNN on Saturday that presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden should not debate President Donald Trump because Biden gives Trump a bigger stage, and it will help Trump in the election.

Only in the sense that Biden voters will get to hear what Trump says instead of just what Biden’s surrogates say he said.

Basically he is saying that Biden will lose the debate to PDJT so he should not debate at all - because he will lose.
That really is kinda funny ya know!
This is like the AFC saying to the NFC that we’re not going to win the Superbowl - so we’re not gonna play.
Not even a “so why should we play?” - just a straight up “we’re NOT gonna play!”.
Even during the last election, 4 years ago, I was shocked at the paucity of likable, viable candidates among the Dems. It was either Hillary or Bernie. The GOP, in contrast, had a virile, charismatic and patriotic bunch.
I saw even then the decline of the moderate base among the Dems, who were not so slowly heading toward Mobs & Snobs. A shame that the only "old school" mainstream type they could find is way past his sell-by date.

If Biden chooses not to debate, President Trump should NOT argue the point or try to pressure or taunt him into changing his mind.
The President is the reigning champ - he should be willing to defend his title, but he should not appear to eager.
He should accept Biden’s decision graciously, and just take a victory lap - after all, when your opponent withdraws from a contest, that counts as a win by forfeit.
He should wait for Biden to officially decline to debate, and then tweet something like “The voters really deserved an opportunity to see how Joe Biden would hold up in a debate situation, but that’s OK, if he chooses to concede the debate - voters can draw their own conclusions.”
President Trump does not need the debate. He holds the title of President. It is up to challengers to challenge him - and as with a heavyweight boxing champ, if there are no challengers, the title remains his, by default.
That is the way most people all look at it. They will figure it’s pretty obvious Biden was afraid he would lose.
Every chance Trump gets he should say that Biden won’t debate him because Biden is “brain dead”. Then when Biden won’t debate Trump can say “see I told you he wouldn’t debate because he’s brain dead”. If Biden does debate Trump, everyone will know he is brain dead.
Of course it will help Trump.
But chickening out will also help Trump.
Pick your poison donkeys.
That is exactly the thought that I was going to write.
