Great post. The AG and U.S. Attorneys originally operated under the Treasury Dept., and their role was primarily in civil law, not criminal matters. At the time the AG Post was established there probably werent any federal crimes on the books other than treason and tax evasion. The U.S. Attorneys probably spent most of their time dealing with land title issues between the Federal government and the various states.
