READ: Justice Gorsuch Torches Roberts and the Liberal Wing of SCOTUS in Nevada Church Case...In One Paragraph
Townhall.com ^ | July 25, 2020 | Matt Vespa

In Nevada, it seems being in the entertainment business has more leeway than those exercising their constitutionally protected right to worship. Amid the COVID outbreak, the state has limits on the capacity of certain locations. For churches, it’s no more than 50. For everything else, from movie theaters to casinos, it’s much more than that. It seems a bit unfair. The standard makes no sense, but it seems to be perfectly logical for Chief Justice John Roberts who sided with the liberal wing of the Supreme Court in the case of a church who challenged this unfair standard (via NYT):

The Supreme Court on Friday rejected a request from a church in Nevada to block enforcement of state restrictions on attendance at religious services.

The vote was 5 to 4, with Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. joining the court’s four more liberal members to form a majority.

The court’s brief order was unsigned and gave no reasons, which is typical when the justices act on emergency applications. The court’s four more conservative members filed three dissents, totaling 24 pages.

Calvary Chapel Dayton Valley in Dayton, Nev., argued that the state treated houses of worship less favorably than it did casinos, restaurants and amusement parks. Those businesses have been limited to 50 percent of their fire-code capacities, while houses of worship have been subject to a flat 50-person limit.

Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr., in a dissent joined by Justices Clarence Thomas and Brett M. Kavanaugh, wrote that the distinction made no sense.

Judge Neil Gorsuch’s dissent is a mere paragraph but torches the liberal wing of the Court with this decision. This isn’t the first time Roberts has sided with liberals on places of worship challenging COVID attendance policies. It’s yet another time this man has stabbed us in the back. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) went onto say this decision shows the man has abandoned his oath.

Kabuki. Gorsch just criminalized the followers of red letter words of Jesus in his crucify the Christians ruling.

Interesting that Roberts suffers from seizures. Many people were healed of this in the Bible when Jesus Christ cast demons from them. I will pray for Justice Roberts

Funny how the hatred of the left over Trump is about the Supreme Court but the court has turned out to be garbage court anyway. Just think if they can win Nov. 4 the Executive or even the Senate.

I’ve long suspected Roberts is a closeted butt pirate, or maybe even a chomo, and the Deep State has the evidence.

"Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr., in a dissent joined by Justices Clarence Thomas and Brett M. Kavanaugh, wrote that the distinction made no sense."

It makes plenty of sense when one considers that the USA is now officially an atheistic nation and that, to millions of people including the "liberal" justices of the Supreme Court, movie theatres and casinos are far more important and of deeper value than God, Whom they do not believe to exist or to be of any importance.

This also explains the unrest and cultural chaos abroad in the land and why it is of paramount importance to re-elect the God-loving Christian President (note tagline) this coming November.

The American People would be wise to reflect that Godless nations fall.

It’s not about the Constitution. It’s not about public health. It’s about the money. Nevada wants the revenue generated from commercial enterprises. You can be sure that if houses of worship ponied up $$$ for the state they would be reopened in a heartbeat.

>> Well, we’ll take what we can get from Gorsuch; but, after siding with the LGBTQRSTUV crowd, I don’t think that it’s entirely accurate to say that Roberts is liberal and Gorsuch isn’t. <<

Gorsuch has actually proven to be the LEFT of Roberts on numerous issues, like voting with the 4 DemonRAT judges to declare half of Oklahoma is Indian territory (Roberts opposed it and voted with the conservative bloc on that one), and voted with the four commie judges to strike down a criminal justice ruling (Roberts and all the other GOP judges besides Gorsuch opposed it)

So he's in no position to be lecturing anyone about liberal activist decisions.

>> I respect Gorsuch. <<

I don't. Anyone who claims the writers of the 1964 civil rights act had trannys and men having anal sex with other men in mind when they wrote the law is no "originalist". Trump replaced Scalia with a Sandra Day O'Connor type judge.

Learn from past mistakes. Conservative support for so-called “strict constructionists”, “originalists” and “textualists” has proven to be a spectacular failure. Nominate and confirm committed, confirmed right-wing activists with good legal credentials - no less. The Democrats have been doing this on their side for decades while conservatives continue to get played by worthless “original intent” nominees they go to war to get confirmed.

Conservatives need to stop listing Roberts separate from the liberal side. He is liberal through and through. He was a disgrace from day one. Time to stop hoping he’ll turn around. He’s toast, burnt toast.

And after Trump replaced the across-the-board conservative Scalia with the mildly conservative Gorsuch, oodles of FReepers defended it by claiming Gorsuch was the "only one" who could have been confirmed by a GOP Senate, but Trump will somehow magically replace ultra-liberal Darth Bader Ginsburg with the openly conservative Amy Coney Barrett as soon as Ginsburg croaks. No doubt the Senate will just rubber stamp that one!

It's akin to say "Sorry pal, I am WAY too outta shape to walk 3 blocks away to get groceries, but that 4 kilo endurance run at the Olympics? No problemo, I'm doing it tomorrow morning!

That’s perfect and exactly the type of thought process needed in a Justice.

In Maryland, all the Emergency orders are constitutionally null and void.

the state constitution is clear in Article 44

That the provisions of the Constitution of the United States, and of this State, apply, as well in time of war, as in time of peace; and any departure therefrom, or violation thereof, under the plea of necessity, or any other plea, is subversive of good Government, and tends to anarchy and despotism.

Exactly my point. Conservatives learned NOTHING from Souter.

All a GOP president has to do is pick ANY random judge and CLAIM their "judicial philosophy" is "originalist" and conservatives will just fall in line to blindly praise the pick as a home run for conservatives, and immediately rush to confirm the judge without question.

That method of getting a "more conservative" SCOTUS has been FAILING since the Nixon era but they keep on drinking that kool-aid.

Roberts will start voting conservative again when one of the other conservatives retires and is replaced by a liberal.
