The New York Times announced Thursday it is releasing a new podcast series titled Nice White Parents, about how white parents are preventing black and brown children from succeeding in public schools.
According to the Times, Nice White Parents is “about the 60-year relationship between white parents and the public school down the block.”
Its premise is reportedly that the reason government schools are failing “black and brown kids” is due to powerful “white parents.”
Reporter Chana Joffe-Walt states in an audio clip the basis for the project is research that led her back to New York City in 1963, when optimistic white parents insisted that a new school, intended originally for black and Hispanic children who lived in “the projects,” be built near their neighborhood instead, so that their white children and the minority children could attend school together.
When the school was finally built, however, Joffe-Walt reported the white parents never actually sent their children to the school. In the series, she relates some of the conversations she had with some of the white parents to examine why they failed to follow through with their stated intentions.
The Times report says the new podcast series demonstrates that questions about why there is an achievement gap between children from black and Hispanic families and white and Asian families – despite 20 years of progressive reforms in public schools – need to be revisited:
We know that American public schools do not guarantee each child an equal education — two decades of school reform initiatives have not changed that. But when we look at how our schools are failing, we usually focus on who they’re failing: Black and brown kids. We ask: Why aren’t they performing better? Why aren’t they achieving more?

CONCLUSION: white parents love their children too much. As for black parents ... well, the one thing we all know is that black people are not responsible for anything bad, so it the collapse of the black family is white people’s fault. Most of the stupid things that go on in our lilly-white school system is the result of educated, rich white moms who watch too many Reese Witherspoon mini-dramas.
They are the ones who want to integrate all of the problem kids into mainstreamed classes.
My kids were in classes where the disruption was so bad it took up about half the class time. It took all of the other parents a year to get these kids un-mainstreamed. They actually had a “safe room” where “Harry” could be sent. More like a padded cell.
So yeah, these white parents should have left the schools the way they were.
I did not independent research one time because I found the debate to be interesting.
In tests that are adjusted for culture and education, in the US and all over the world...there seems to be a gap.
Of course, unless you were looking at results from the 60’s the authors would go overboard telling you all of the reasons why this “might” be true.
The data supported the gap. No one wanted to believe the data.
Should read, “I did some”, not I did not.
I always heard about the IQ gap. Honestly, I was a true believer that humans are human. I believed that we all would have the same IQ in a world where there was NO racial differences.
Do the research. Then you will never talk about it in public.
Also keep in mind that averages don’t apply to any single members of the cohort.

Bullsh*t. Education is not something that is done to you by schools, like a shot of penicillin. Education is something that YOU DO, ACCOMPLISH, OR ACHIEVE, with the assistance of or over the obstacles created by, schools.
