At least three federal officers could be left permanently blind after they were attacked with lasers by protesters in Portland this week.
The officers, part of the Federal Protective Service, were injured during rioting in the city on Monday night as they attempted to keep anti-government demonstrators from gaining entrance to a federal courthouse in the city's downtown area.
“When officers responded to put out these fires, glass bottles were thrown and lasers – which can cause permanent blindness – were shined in their eyes,” said Deputy Director of Operations Richard Cline. “We have three officers who currently have eye injuries and they may not recover sight in those eyes from those laser attacks.”
Demonstrators set fires near the property, broke windows, and spray-painted the barricades outside the courthouse.
Cline said the FPS has purchased anti-laser glasses that officers are now wearing as they guard the federal complex.
Seven people were arrested during the demonstrations Monday night, police said.
President Trump last week deployed federal officers to the city to protect the area from what he described as "anarchists" who "hate our country."

The federal courthouse in Portland is basically under siege. The rioters are trying to create an over response by the police so that protesters will be injured, and gain sympathy on the national news and incite others against the government.

If an officer is illuminated by a laser, it should be immediately assumed that such laser is attached to a firearm - the officer being targeted with a round. At that point the area should become a free fire zone. These are not protestors. These are enemy combatants, to become casualties. Any survivors go to a black site to be rendered.

A laser wielded in public should be treated the same way as wielding any other deadly weapon. Immediate shoot to kill is a warranted response to any refusal to cease and desist and submit to arrest.
If you saw the video there were dozens of protesters waving green lasers around willy-nilly. Likely they blinded a few of their own too.

The headline suggests this is a possibility. What evidence do you have that this is an exaggerated claim? Such damage is certainly possible.

No. Can us not the same as does. I spent my career working in the field of lasers and electro optics. Even getting a burn does not mean instaneous blindness. Often times depending on age and damage the brain manages to adjust gif the burn. One can have near normal sight for most of their life. The burn only causes problems later in life
