Two recent studies looked at the relationship between personality traits and reactions to restrictions put in place to slow the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19. Researchers found that people possessing so-called "Dark Triad" traits—narcissism, psychopathy and Machiavellianism—were less likely to comply with restrictions or engage in preventative measures against the pandemic. However, researchers also emphasized the small role personality traits have in the overall response to pandemic restrictions, like face-mask mandates and social-distancing requirements.
Both studies, which, combined, surveyed more than a thousand people in Poland, were published in the peer-reviewed academic journal Personality and Individual Differences. In "Adaptive and maladaptive behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic: The role of Dark Triad traits, collective narcissism, and health beliefs," researchers Bartłomiej Nowaka and Paweł Brzóskaa of the SWPS University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Poland, along with co-authors at other universities, surveyed 755 people between the ages of 18 and 78 in the second half of March—in the third and fourth weeks of government pandemic restrictions.

While psychopaths and narcissists may be less likely to comply with coronavirus restrictions, the evidence doesn't suggest that personality disorders are to blame for social-distancing failures and mask-mandate pushback.

Then, there are the AntiMask Zealots, who believe it is their duty to tell everyone that wearing a mask is a sign of moral and intellectual inferiority, and that you will soon be rounded up like turkeys in mid-November. They consider themselves to be John Galt, when in reality they have more in common with William Kristol.

The other group believes that masks are not useful, can be detrimental and that mask mandates are executive overreach.
It was just a matter of time until they started trying to demonize us and thus make it acceptable to remove us from society. The Soviets were always throwing non-conforming people into mental hospitals.
That said, who would ever have imagined that mask wearing should have come down to be the great dividing issue of our times? And it does signify things about the individual: whether they are compliant, fearful, and easily manipulated, or whether they are rational, independent and analytical.
The latter make lousy subjects of the State, and once upon a time, they used to make great Americans. We were famous for that type of person, but things have changed and now it’s “patriotic” to wear a muzzle just because Mommy State says so.

They need to do some more research. Come out into the field and approach me for not wearing a mask. You might find proof of my inner psychopath. Mask shaming falls into the same category as an old meme I remember that went “Never trust a man who doesn’t drink and tells you not to either”. That was a mark of fascistic attitude.
Well,this certainly fits me! I am the most wonderful creature to have ever walked this earth...and I could crush the life out of a newborn baby just for a laugh!

Yeah, that has to be it. It has nothing to do with the fact that millions of us (but not enough millions of us) still consider ourselves free American citizens, i.e., not subjects, and, like those who came before us, are willing to accept risk and act accordingly. In my case, I deeply resent the fact that idiots like Wolf, Cuomo, Fauci, Whitmer, etc., who have been so painfully wrong so many times - to the detriment of tens of thousands, somehow know what’s best for us.
I would not hassle anyone for wearing a mask. For all I know they have a health condition that gives them some reasonable belief that they should do so.
Although people wearing masks outdoors where there is no human being within 50 feet of them does make me shake my head.

Yes, totally believable and I am sure the research was set up without preconceived bias in the methodology. Obviously we must declare all of these people felons and take away their voting rights.
