HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Tropical Storm Douglas has strengthened to a category 1 hurricane Wednesday, according to the Pacific Hurricane Center.

This is the first hurricane of the 2020 eastern Pacific season, with wind speeds up to 75 mph. Douglas has resumed strengthening, after remaining steady for almost 24 hours. The system has developed a ragged eye during the past couple of hours.

The system is expected to reach the islands beginning with Hawaii Island on late Sunday into early Monday.

I’m told that standing in a 60 mph gale reporting on the gathering hurricane sucks air from your lungs thus preventing the virus

In Aruba 10 years ago I remember a local boat captain bragging they don’t get hurricanes at that latitude. Looks like they’re gonna feel this one.

On the other hand...If you get killed by a flying piece of debris, like say a stop sign or such, the cause of death will be ruled “Covid 19.”
