In his first official press briefing on the coronavirus pandemic since April, President Trump on Tuesday admitted that the public health crisis is likely to worsen as cases surge across the country and asked all Americans to wear masks in public.
While Trump hailed his administrations response to the pandemic and the work toward developing a vaccine, he bluntly disclosed what many Americans already know: that the crisis is likely to spread more before it can be contained.
It will get worse before it gets better, Trump said of the pandemic that has infected close to 4 million Americans. Thats something I dont like saying but it is.
Trumps comments come after weeks where he either downplayed the virus continued spread or focused on other issues from unrest over racial injustice in American cities to the removal of Confederate statues despite cases of COVID-19 surging, particularly, in parts of the south and southwest.
Noting the concerns among many of his supporters that facial coverings impinge on their personal freedoms, Trump pleaded with Americans to wear masks out in public to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
Were asking everybody when youre not able to socially distance to wear a mask, Trump said.

And how much money has fauxi to gain with this vaccine?
You were the one who complained that you had ‘nowhere to go’.
I was just sympathizing with your (purported) plight, and communicating my hope that you may find a place to ‘go’ where you might become happy.
And what do you mean by ‘regardless’?
You stated that you believe that President Trump was ‘duped’ or in on some ‘scam’.
But you offer nothing to substantiate such claims.
You’re boring; it’s late, here -
- and I’m sleepy.
G’Nite!
“You stated that you believe that President Trump was duped or in on some scam.
But you offer nothing to substantiate such claims. “
A very common problem on this thread.
Deaths per 1M population
1 San Marino 1,238
2 Belgium 846
3 Andorra 673
4 UK 669
5 Spain 608
6 Italy 580
7 Sweden 559
8 France 462
9 Chile 454
10 USA 438
11 Peru 412
12 Brazil 384

The total number of deaths without considering population is useless.
Love,
O2
And Arizona counts include “probable” deaths. Probable? Who qualifies probable? Is there even an autopsy?
Not just on this thread, nor this website.
People spouting with no facts to back them up are common *EVERYWHERE* on the Web.
Oh, Well.
I learned - in the ‘Wild West’ days of Usenet - that the Internet is a ‘free-for-all’ zone - and that things can get pretty vicious.
Engage at your own risk.
True.
I have a higher regard for what is on FR though.
on the brighter side, Breitbard had this summary which gives me a glimmer of hope :
"Despite Trumps support for wearing masks, he opposed setting a national mask mandate during an interview with Fox News that aired Sunday. I want people to have a certain freedom, and I dont believe in that, Trump said, adding that he did not agree with the idea that if everyone wore a mask the virus would vanish. Trump also said during the interview that he was a believer in masks but added that masks cause problems, too. "
That’s from a silly, and false, position.
Trump advocated masks today “when appropriate”.
i agree-not a big deal and hopefully a vaccine from either Moderna or AstraZenaka (the two who might be out this year) can be out in Oct.
if it helps Trump get reelected I will wear two masks!
Trump did well today with this because he has been tagged and blamed for not doing anything with rising cases (despite a majority of those happening in larger cities with protest) and he has been tagged as being uncaring or a racist in regard to Floyd. “the media aligned his tweet of “when the looting starts we start shooting” (one of Trumps dumbest tweets) with bad cops. Played right into their hands. That’s when the betting odds shifted from favoring Trump to Biden.
At least this sounds like he new campaign manager might be having some impact
President Trump gave a wonderful speech back in May touting the vaccine development process and the efforts his administration is making to push this along: https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/remarks-president-trump-vaccine-development/
He’s mentioned it a few times since then in various speeches and interviews, but it isn’t at the forefront of his messaging. I wish he’d talk more about it. Assuming things go well, I think his announcement of the availability of a safe and effective vaccine will be a massive win.
The most relevant bits are: "When determining whether COVID19 played a role in the cause of death, follow the CDC clinical criteria for evaluating a person under investigation for COVID19 and, where possible, conduct appropriate laboratory testing using guidance provided by CDC or local health authorities."
"In cases where a definite diagnosis of COVID19 cannot be made, but it is suspected or likely (e.g., the circumstances are compelling within a reasonable degree of certainty), it is acceptable to report COVID19 on a death certificate as probable or presumed. In these instances, certifiers should use their best clinical judgement in determining if a COVID19 infection was likely. However, please note that testing for COVID19 should be conducted whenever possible."
"Ideally, testing for COVID19 should be conducted, but it is acceptable to report COVID19 on a death certificate without this confirmation if the circumstances are compelling within a reasonable degree of certainty."
"When reporting cause of death on a death certificate, use any information available, such as medical history, medical records, laboratory tests, an autopsy report, or other sources of relevant information. Similar to many other diagnoses, a cause-of-death statement is an informed medical opinion that should be based on sound medical judgment drawn from clinical training and experience, as well as knowledge of current disease states and local trends"
Yep.
I would take 5 months of data across myriad countries as more reliable
By 2022 we will be past two or three peaks. The majority of those who could have been infdcted will have been infected.
Even if you add that in, the USA is between #7 yo #11 in most affected
https://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/3866562/posts
San Marino’s and Andorra can be excluded due yo negligible size. That puts the USA at #8
From the details, little to no monetary gain
Herd immunity is nonsensical in the short term. It takes years for herd immune. Sweden and the UK thought they could get herd immune now they have worse deaths per million than the USA
