Former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions lost the Republican nomination for his old Senate seat in Alabama to former college football coach Tommy Tuberville, likely ending a long political career with a bitter defeat egged on by President Donald Trump.
Tuberville, 65, beat Sessions in Tuesdays Republican runoff as Sessions fell short in his attempted comeback for a seat he held for two decades before resigning to become Trumps attorney general in 2017.
Familiar to Alabamians from his decade as Auburn Universitys head football coach, Tuberville is now positioned for a strong challenge against Democratic U.S. Sen. Doug Jones. With Alabamas strong GOP tilt, the seat is widely viewed as Republicans best chance for a pickup as they try to maintain their thin Senate majority amid Trumps lagging popularity nationally.

Now that the polls are closed, I'll admit, this was always going to be a tough race for Sessions, thanks to the disloyal, narcissistic, blame-shifting ignoramus in the White House. pic.twitter.com/C1IWLk06n3— Ann Coulter (@AnnCoulter) July 15, 2020
Message to the GOP-e: “Do your job, support your President...oh and DO YOUR JOB”
The worst, most spineless decision Sessions ever made
Why does it say July 15? It is still July 14 in the US, where Twitter is located.
Democrats suck in any state.
A loud signal shot across the bow of the future body politic.
Trust Sessions...lol
Can somebody please explain Ann’s rational between loving Christie & Romney and hating POTUS DJT?
Was the turnout today a harbinger of great things for Nov 3?
“In a year or two, everyone on this site will be attacking this RINO.”
Meh, all that gaslighting by Bannon & Breitbart will fall by the wayside. Sen. Tommy Tuberville will be behind @POTUS!
Congratulations Tommy Tuberville!
Now all the former football players will start coming out and saying Tuberville said something racist.
He was a good Senator and seems like a nice guy. However, I can never forgive him for what he did to Donald Trump (and us) as AG.
I think more than any single person you can lay the blame for the coup attempt on Sessions. He was the one man who could have caught this and demanded proof, but he allowed himself to be taken out easily essentially handicapping the President. His naivity about how corrupt DOJ and the swamp really were cost Donald Trump the full power of the Presidency in many ways.
He kept promising “leak investigations” and prosecutions. Nothing. He launched “operation do nothing” with the Utah U.S. Attorney like he was Lindsey Graham and it yielded nothing. To this day I am not even sure the poor guy in Utah knew about it until he heard it on the news.
Tubberville is not a career politician so let’s give him a shot. He owes Trump. Sessions can now write a book bashing Trump and testify before Schiff on some made up drama that is impeachment worthy to cement his place in the Benedict Arnold Hall of Fame.
The saddest part of all? He still does not understand what I wrote above.
Good news.
Don’t bet the house on it.
That’s assuming he wins. He was the opponent Jones wanted.
ROFL!!!!
IT’S NOT OVER YET!!!
he’s playing 36DDD chess (not chest) and it’s a back room plan top secret black ops double secret probation action going on and Trump knows about it.
In the end we will see what a great man he was.
At least that’s what some or more than some folks here thought back then
i just thought he was a POS
“Dont bet the house on it.
Thats assuming he wins. He was the opponent Jones wanted.”
If I could get even money, the house and the condo are bet on Tuberville.
Are you on drugs FRiend?
Doug Jones voted to impeach President Trump. He’s a dead man walking.
This was not so much a vote for Tuberville as a vote against cowardly turncoat Sessions.
They won’t wake up until Tommy joins the Amnesty Senators Grahamnesty, Rubio, Hoeven, Murkowsky, Alexander, etc. for the next amnesty attempt.
All of his staff are Cheap Labor Express stooges.
