ERRE HAUTE, Indiana (Reuters) - A U.S. federal judge issued an injunction on Monday delaying what would have been the first federal execution in 17 years, scheduled for later in the day, thwarting at least for now the Trump administration’s goal of reviving capital punishment at the federal level.

Judge Tanya Chutkan of the U.S. district court in Washington ordered the U.S. Department of Justice to delay four executions scheduled for July and August to allow continuation of the condemned men’s legal challenges against a new lethal injection protocol announced in 2019.

“The scientific evidence before the court overwhelmingly indicates that the 2019 Protocol is very likely to cause Plaintiffs extreme pain and needless suffering during their executions,” Chutkan wrote in her order.

Is it wrong of me want to bring back Chain Gangs? There is a HUGE untapped manpower pool for road work, cleaning up parks, trimming trees, etc. in the incarcerated.

Heck! They could be the cleaning crews for when the ‘Peaceful Protestors’ tear up a town!

But, nobody ever asks me. :(

The ruling said plantiffs had identified two alternative methods of execution that would reduce the risk of serious pain. A pre-dose of opiods or execution by firing squad.

Give him the opiods. There is no point in causing him pain on his way out. He will meet his Maker soon enough.

The defense lawyers probably have a list of sympathetic Federal Judges to be brought into play in a sequential order with the specifications of a single issue for each appeal. It was a life sentence after all in spite of being called a death sentence.

Another judge that thinks the Judicial Branch rules the Executive and Legislative Branch. I blame the Not So Supreme Court for not cracking down on the lower court judges.

I looked up one of them

https://www.the-sun.com/news/1127823/daniel-lewis-lee-death-row/

and this guy whacked a family of three. So my question is, did this family, which included an 8 year old, feel any terror or pain as each one was killed? Was death instantaneous?

But I do agree all this ceremony of strapping someone down, sticking needles into them with a parade of guards and witnesses is just stupid.

After their final appeal, they should be taken to a crematorium, shot, and thrown in the fire.

Ah, you’d have unions suing all over the place.

Private and city.
