He’s a criminal and sentenced to execution. Why should we be concerned about him being in “pain”? It seems he caused a lot more pain to his victims. Execute the criminal.
Most moderns are fine with a quick exit for condemned criminals. That is no longer the issue at all, it is the almost complete frustration of the death sentence itself, as a fitting punishment. 20 years from conviction to death is absurd and the product of obstruction by opponents. The sentence should be carried out with sober respect, but it SHOULD be carried out.
