As Alabama GOP Senate primary looms, Trump takes closing shot at Jeff Sessions
The Washington Times ^ | JULY 11, 2020 | JAMES VARNEY

President Trump reminded voters Saturday morning he’d like to block a return to Washington for his former Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

“Big Senate Race in Alabama on Tuesday,” Mr. Trumptweeted, while urging voters to back former Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville in the July 14 primary. “Jeff Sessions is a disaster who has let us all down. We don’t want him back in Washington!”

The winner of Alabama’s GOP primary runoff will face Democratic Sen. Doug Jones in November. Mr. Jones rode a torrent of out-of-state money and scandals engulfing his GOP opponent to win a special election in 2017, and while he remains flush with cash he is considered the most vulnerable Democratic incumbent by most political analysts.

Mr. Sessions, whom all polls show trailing Mr. Tuberville, has sought to define the latter with unproven record, warning GOP primary voters of happened three years ago when former state supreme court justice Roy Moore was buried under allegations of sexual misconduct with a young woman decades ago.

Attacks against the frontrunner, Mr. Tuberville, have escalated in the campaign’s final weeks, with stories resurfacing about his light disciplinary touch with talented players at Auburn, and the extent of his involvement in a sketchy investment fund that went south and led to a fraud conviction against his former partner in the enterprise.

But limping into the runoff after a second place finish, Mr. Sessions has had to labor under Mr. Trump’s endorsement of Mr. Tuberville, and the president’s myriad reminders that Mr. Sessions almost immediately recused himself in the so-called Russian collusion investigation, leaving Mr. Trump vulnerable his first two years in office to bogus charges his campaign was in cahoots with the Kremlin.

Sessions should have retired to some vegetable farm somewhere after his terrible performance as AG. Why do these people think they are entitled to be in the US Senate till they die?
We normal folks have to take compulsory retirement after a certain age
Just look at Grassley. He must be 90 years or something.

Joke post?
What constitution did Sessions “defend” when he allowed criminals like Comey, MaCabe, Strzok, Page, Brennan, Andrew Wiseman and the entire Mueller criminal gang run riot and step over everyone’s constitutional rights?

I like Sessions because he’s reliable on immigration.

Sure he talks tough on immigration but he didn't recuse himself from immigration enforcement did he? Couldn't prove that but his accomplishments in that area.

But I sure can understand Trump’s disappointment at Sessions. He could have sidelined this whole Russia hoax and Mueller witch trial at the get go.

Trump did after all appoint Session. He should have vetted his AG more carefully.

There's a famous novel out by Thomas Hardy about Senate candidate Tommy Tuberville called "Test of the d'Tubervilles".

Tuberville is also a storied former football player and coach. He won the Bear Bryant "Coach of the Year" award when his Auburn team won the Sugar Bowl in 2004.

He is also with a group that provides entertainment tours for deployed U. S. Servicemen.

He should win over the mousy Sessions in a walk.

The above play on words (re: the famous Hardy novel, "Tess of the d'Urbervilles") was a pun, of course. Just havin' fun today. The name "Tuberville" fascinated me and I looked it up. It's old, old English from the Norman Conquest times).

Sessions was under the mistakes belief he had to recuse himself. He should have told trump.

Sessions is much stronger on immigration than open borders tuberville. The reality is he would be a bigger asset.

You all missed the point, illegal immigration is mute when
the wall is completed. The door will be closed.

Also that $16 wage at factories in Mexico is equivalent to
$32 here in USA.

Raising Mexico wages from $5 will be an incentive for
illegals to go back to Mexico.

Amnesty isn’t the question the topic is E-verify. Is
the coach for job verification and not paying welfare
schooling illegal kids, food stamps, medical for illegals.

Jones is for all that, and Sessions did nothing to stop it.

I hate Sessions, he didn’t clean up DOJ or FBI, he let the coup go on and on, the spying, locking up all Trumps people, nobody got fired. They knew Flynn did nothing wrong, they put Manafort in solitary.

Sessions let them lie to Fisa court.

Sessions is a scumbag.

Protect and defend the constitution. Not protect Trump’s seedy friends.

Which he failed miserably to do when he allowed Mueller and his police state thugs total control of the “Sessions” DOJ for over 2 years. History will not be kind to Jeff Sessions and his supporters. Guaranteed.

Sessions ran cover for the deepstate when he was AG, giving them time to regroup, cover their tracks, and come up with a new strategy.

Even worse. He allowed Democrats to run the Trump DOJ for over 2 years. Rosenstein admitted in his testimony that he did nothing but rubber stamp Mueller/Weissmann’s requests.

That we are even entertaining the idea of sending a coup enabler like Sessions back to the Senate shows how far gone the GOP is. Too few GOP voters grasp the danger this country is in and the role played by the GOP in this bipartisan and ongoing coup.

That last is the one worry that I have about Jeff. But I think that he is a genuine patriot and will do the right thing

Genuine patriots don’t hand the keys to the “Trump” DOJ to Mueller and his Democrat police state thugs. Jeff Sessions has failed his country miserably and allowed the Deep State assault of innocent Trump supporters.

Don’t live in AL so I can’t vote. But I have only ONE person that I trust completely and that is our President. If he doesn’t want Sessions, then I don’t want Sessions. Yes, Sessions was a good Senator and, yes, he did support Trump early. But when he betrayed Trump by not informing him of his intention to act in a way that Sessions thought honorable, he acted DIShonorably, and he lost me totally. I want honorable men in the senate and that’s NOT Sessions. Trump has enough trouble with the left and with RINOs. Give Trump what Trump asks for. If we can’t do that, who will? Trump, YES! Sessions, NO!
