Every night for the past six weeks in Portland, Oregon, antifa and Black Lives Matter rioters, looters and vandals have turned what used to be a nice neighborhood in downtown into a war zone. Portlanders are sick of it.
The police commissioner/mayor and the new BLM-approved police chief have done little about it. The Portland Police Officers Association held a scathing news conference, issuing a no-confidence throwdown to City Hall and begging elected officials to stop defending antifa.
But next to nothing has been done by local Portland police.

I recall reading that in some states a warning shot will get you arrested. If you do not feel your life threatened enough to shoot the person, then should not be firing your gun at all.

Technically, yes. Also, bullets fired into the air have to come down, with the potential for injuring or killing people.
I suppose the charges would be brandishing and reckless discharge. However, it is doubtful the DA will bring charges.
When are the police going to side with the citizens and allow self defense or better yet, deputize law abiding folks and allow the problem to be dealt with?
Or even holding it in front of you as rioters smash down your gate and head towards your house - cops will come and take youe gun from you as they did that couple in St. Louis who were outside their house defending it.

If the police walk out and the job of policing becomes so pointless no one will want to become a policeman, guess who wins? The radicals won't even have to go through the politically unpopular process of de-funding them.
We've already seen many examples of police enmass standing around in riot gear watching innocent citizens get the crap beat out of them. So I'd say the answer to that is never.
This is one of the many reasons they don’t want people learning history.
