Justin Timberlake is calling for the removal of Confederate monuments across the country.
The singer, who is from Tennessee, posted his comments on Instagram on Monday along with a video on the subject from the American Civil Liberties Union.
“America was built by men who believed in and benefitted from racism. Plain and simple,” Timberlake said in the caption. “...those men who proudly owned and abused Black people are STILL celebrated all over the country.”
Timberlake cited a statistic that there are about 1,848 Confederate statues in the country.
“More than half are in The South, and it’s not acceptable,” he said. “No one should be protecting the legacies of confederate leaders and slave owners. If we plan to move forward, these monuments must come down.”
The pop star emphasized that the statues’ removal “does not erase our country’s vile history of oppression” but instead represents a “symbol of respect for Black people in America.”
Calls to remove Confederate statues and monuments were reignited after video of George Floyd’s arrest and death circulated the country. Floyd, an unarmed Black man, died after a now-former Minneapolis police officer knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes.
Protests erupted nationwide after Floyd’s death, leading some demonstrators to vandalize and topple monuments of Confederate leaders and controversial historical figures.
A recent Quinnipiac University poll showed that a narrow majority of respondents approve of removing Confederate statues, and that voters are split on renaming military bases that are named after Confederate leaders.
President Trump has vowed to veto this year's defense policy bill if it includes an amendment to rename these military bases.
He has also condemned protesters advocating for the removal of statues, saying they want to "overthrow the American Revolution."

The secession war was not about slavery.
The Confederate states were the first States to emancipate slaves. It was done as a tactic by the Union, who retained slavery, to destabilize the Confederacy and win the war.
It was not until a constitutional amendment later that the Union states stopped being slaving states.
So why all this hate against the Confederacy?
Lies can only be told if books are banned or burned and all statues and monuments torn down.
The Confederacy was no more guilty of slavery or of racism than the Union.
I want the Hollywood Walk of Fame removed. I find it offensive.

But the media was not mentioning his size or reporting that Floyd was removed from a squad car because he was acting up under the influence of drugs and also later was discovered to have COVID 19. The results of politically induced miss reporting incidents where blacks have resisted legitimate arrest began to be used earlier during and after the post Zimmmerman trial, then on to the Ferguson episode. Obama’s abuse of the “Bully Pulpit” which seemed to promote resistance to legitimate arrest led to black gangs attacking non blacks found innocently traversing black neighborhoods and to a score of murders or life changing injuries and later attacks of theft and vandalism on local businesses as well as attacks and murders of police officers during that period

One of the things I was taught way back in first aid courses is that if a person is choking, but can still talk, let it work itself out, that the person is passing air - otherwise, they wouldn’t be able to talk.
