Supreme Court Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas may be planning to retire soon, according to rumors in the media Wednesday.
Robert Costa reported in the Washington Post that the Trump administration was preparing for the possible retirement of Justice Clarence Thomas:
Justice Clarence Thomas, a conservative appointed by George H.W. Bush, is privately seen by Trump’s aides as the most likely to retire this year. While Thomas has not given any indication of doing so, the White House and Senate Republicans are quietly preparing for a possible opening, according to a White House official and two outside Trump political advisers who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the private conversations.
In response to that article, Hugh Hewitt stated on the Hugh Hewitt Show that he did not believe Thomas would retire, but that he had been told Alito was considering retirement.
Hewitt said, as the Washington Examiner reported:
Hewitt suggested he learned this rumor when “people begin working the refs” this time of year.
“I’m hardly a ref, but I got a column in the Washington Post, and so they start working me about, ‘You know this person would be great if Alito quit,'” he said.
Thomas is 72 and Alito is 70 years old.
In addition, liberal justices Justices Stephen Breyer (81) and Ruth Bader Ginsburg (87) are considered candidates for retirement.
Therefore, it is possible that whoever is president for the next four years could have the opportunity to make four Supreme Court appointments.

Just love all these articles attempting to demoralize conservatives. However, I heard that all liberals in DC will utter a uniform animal cry of despair when Trump wins by a landslide. They will all run to mama’s basements or take up commune living in rural outposts, emerging only to howl at the moon whenever it is full.
Biden Rule, Lindsey Graham has already said the would not move any SCOTUS Appointments out of his Judiciary Committee in an Election Year.
Simply put, if POTUS Trump does not get Reelected it’s Game Over. Only Republicans say stupid things like “the President anyone he wants and we have a Duty to give his choices a fair Hearing”. That is a standard Lindsey Graham line when a Rat is POTUS and the Senate is GOP.
Even if he Wins and the Rats retake the Senate, it is Game Over.
This will put pressure on ginsberg to retire.
She won’t.
That clinches it for me!!
Front row, left to right: Associate Justice Stephen G. Breyer, Associate Justice Clarence Thomas, Chief Justice
John G. Roberts, Jr., Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Associate Justice Samuel A. Alito. Back row:
Associate Justice Neil M. Gorsuch, Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor, Associate Justice Elena Kagan,
Associate Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh.
Ginsberg is a robot. They made the switch four years ago. A new-fangled robot who will not short out if presented with a logical paradox, or caught in the rain.
It would be a lot harder if the GOP loses the Senate.
“I still have a hard time believing RBG is even alive?”
They have her on a formaldehyde drip.
Beyer is older than anyone but Buzzi, I think.
The REAL likelihood is that in his second term, Trump gets FOUR supreme court appointees.
“according to rumors in the media”
AKA FAKE NEWS
Trump won’t get a pick till after the election. Maybe not then
“its a lie the dems dreamed up to fire up the pro-baby-killing folks in prep for the election. MUST KILL BABIES!”
The report was from the Washington Post - enough said!
Ghislaine Maxwell says Jeffrey Epsteins last words were I cant breathe!
Yet Ruth is still being propped up in the corner!
Alito? Why would he even take the job if he wanted to retire young?
This is basically why I think we shouldn’t even nominate judges, or anyone with a law degree, to the Supreme Court anymore. I just don’t trust them to do what is good for the country. Trump showed you don’t need to be a politician to be a good President and I think we need someone else to show us you don’t need to be an Ivy League lawyer to be a good Supreme Court justice.
After seeing how close comedians can come to looking and acting like Presidents, candidates, (Saturday Night Live) I have to wonder if they don’t have a runt double in for Ruthie.
How hard would it be with justices interacting virtually?
dems will demand delaying until after Biden’s innauguration. Senate Repubs will be fine with that. Maybe End Times my friends. Hope I’m wrong. Corruption rules the day.
yes-not enough time now and liberal judges hang on until they are 1 foot in the grave-course they probably have scads of liberal law clerks writing their opinions and they are never very nuanced or referenced-just living constitution BS
Agreed, or at least commit to at least late 2024 if Trump loses.
