We’ve had close elections before, but political experts are bracing for events that might be unprecedented come November.
Surprisingly large portions of both Republicans and Democrats seem poised to challenge the results of the 2020 presidential election if their side loses. Some even favor authoritarian rule over elections as the best way to run the country. And a new worry for 2020 is the risk that more mail-in voting could delay official results well past Election Day, leaving voters wondering whether it will be Donald Trump’s agenda or Joe Biden’s, once January arrives.
New research by the Democracy Fund Voter Study Group finds that 38% of Democrats favor a do-over election if their candidate, Joe Biden, wins the popular vote this year but loses the electoral vote, as Hillary Clinton did in 2016. Among Republicans, 11% favor a do-over if Biden wins the electoral vote but President Trump wins the popular vote. In the U.S. system, electoral votes are awarded for each state a candidate wins, rather than for the national tally, and there’s no provision for a repeat election if there’s a split decision. The electoral vote carries the day.
If Trump wins and there’s credible evidence of interference by a foreign government—as there was in 2016, we now know—57% of Democrats say they’d back a do-over election. And if Trump lost but claimed there was voter fraud, 29% of Republicans say it would be appropriate if he refused to leave office.
“There are multiple contexts in which people might plausibly be mobilized to reject the legitimacy of the election,” political scientist Larry Diamond of Stanford University, who co-authored the Democracy Fund analysis, says in the latest episode of the Yahoo Finance Electionomics podcast.

Sorry, I didn't explain. Two electoral votes are given to the winner of the whole state. Then one is given to the winner of each district. So Maine can be split 3-1 or 4-0. Nebraska with 5 can be split 3-2, 4-1 or 5-0. Republicans would salvage some EVs from the good areas of California.

I think I would be breaking windows and burning buildings if the electoral college were flipped based on faithless electors. Although some have voted against their instructions, there never has been a case where one has changed the election.

Um, tough. The Constitution is the set of rules. If anyone wants a sure civil war, just break those rules and try to force everyone to accept it.
There is indeed a very high chance the Left will reject the election results if Trump wins, but they are sharing their plans in an attempt to scare the emotional white women into voting for Biden. “Vote for us if you want the craziness to stop!” Of course, at this point, the Democrats don’t have total control over the leftist nuts and things will continue to spiral out of control, but that’s a different matter.
If the democrats win, they can look forward to the same.

I think Puff the Magic Dragon at one riot would solve the problem of all these insurrectionist rioters permanently. Let their families search through the bite-size body parts to see if little grad student Evan Waperstien or Latonda Williams is that bloody clump of hair. That and threats to take away Title 4 financial aid at universities...aka breeding grounds from this crap.

I am hoping like Hell that Trump wins the popular vote so that he can take California, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, New Mexico, Illinois, DC, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, and Hawaii.
That’s 16 States. I hope the rest, another 20 or so, finish their popular vote law so that Trump can sweep all 50 States!
