Trump campaign rallies typically conclude with the Rolling Stones classic 1969 song You Cant Always Get What You Want. But that rousing musical coda may soon be coming to an end.
BMI, the musical and performing rights organization, has reportedly told the Trump campaign to stop playing the Rolling Stones music at rallies, saying that there could be legal consequences if the campaign ignores the warning.
Deadline reported that the Trump campaign has a license that authorizes the public performance of more than 15 million musical works in the BMI catalogue. But a provision allows BMI to exclude a song if an artist objects to its use.

You see the world through your cynical eyes
You're a troubled young man I can tell
You've got it all in the palm of your hand
But your hand's wet with sweat and your head needs a rest
And you're fooling yourself if you don't believe it
You're kidding yourself if you don't believe it
Why must you be such an angry young man
When your future looks quite bright to me
How can there be such a sinister plan
That could hide such a lamb, such a caring young man
You're fooling yourself if you don't believe it
You're kidding yourself if you don't believe it
Get up, get back on your feet
You're the one they can't beat and you know it
Come on, let's see what you've got
Just take your best shot and don't blow it...
I always want to play this song to liberals. LOL!
That song has been beaten to death from overuse in republican campaigns for the past 20 years.
*The rest of the lyrics make little sense.*
You should think about Hillary and Benghazi when its playing. Makes perfect sense then.
I saw her today at the reception
In her glass was a bleeding man
She was practiced at the art of deception
Well, I could tell by her blood-stained hands
And then she lost the election to Trump. No, Hillary, you dont always get what you want.
The Stones might not have been thinking about Hillary when they wrote it, but it fits her quite well.
“Let the weak be strong, let the right be wrong”
Aside from being clearly an abuse song let the right be wrong has a negative message for our side and also what does right be wrong do/mean anything other than rhyme? Just sayin’.
“I agree. He should start using Street Fighting Man.”
Or maybe “Paint it black” LOL
Just have a choir sing “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” It has to be public domain by now.
I hope it stops because I despise that song.
I didn’t know what the screeching was the first time I heard it. There must be a better Country song to use.
What in the hell are you babbling about and what does it have to do with the suggestion of a song?
*****Somebody explain it to me, because I fail to see any logical connection.*****
Best subliminal I’ve ever seen.
You don’t get the president you want, you get the president you NEED...
You’re right; it’s not perfect.
I like this one better (much better keyboard intro, as well), and F’ing Liberty on Drums!
Billy Joel - The Angry Young Man
There’s a place in the world for the angry young man
With his working class ties and his radical plans
He refuses to bend, he refuses to crawl
He’s always at home with his back to the wall
And he’s proud of his scars and the battles he’s lost
And he struggles and bleeds as he hangs on the cross
And he likes to be known as the angry young man
Give a moment or two to the angry young man
With his foot in his mouth and his heart in his hand
He’s been stabbed in the back, he’s been misunderstood
It’s a comfort to know his intentions are good
And he sits in a room with a lock on the door
With his maps and his medals laid out on the floor
And he likes to be known as the angry young man
I believe I’ve passed the age of consciousness and righteous rage
I found that just surviving was a noble fight
I once believed in causes too
I had my pointless point of view
And life went on no matter who was wrong or right
And there’s always a place for the angry young man
With his fist in the air and his head in the sand
And he’s never been able to learn from mistakes
So he can’t understand why his heart always breaks
But his honor is pure and his courage as well
And he’s fair and he’s true and he’s boring as hell
And he’ll go to the grave as an angry old man
There’s a place in the world for the angry young man
With his working class ties and his radical plans
He refuses to bend, he refuses to crawl
He’s always at home with his back to the wall
And he’s proud of his scars and the battles he’s lost
And he struggles and bleeds as he hangs on the cross
And he likes to be known as the angry young man
Trump should use “Shattered”
It’s the best description of Cuomo and Wilhelm’s New York.
I try to be polite and cordial to all on these threads, even when I disagree.
In your case, I’ll make an exception.
As for “what the hell I’m babbling about” let me quote John Wayne’s most famous line from “The Shootist.”
“I won’t be wronged, I won’t be insulted, I won’t be laid a hand on. I don’t do these things to other people and I require the same from them.”
Based on the ever-declining level of civility on these threads, I suggest that there are a lot of FReepers who are acutally CReepers.
Thanks for that story. I don’t doubt your veracity.
Still, I’ve seen a lot of apparently decent guys who have their lives ruined by apparently vengeful ex-spouses. Ultimately, there’s no way of knowing what goes on between two people, barring physical evidence such as you presented.
We live in a broken culture. I’m 62, there’s nothing I can do to change things other than try to behave decently while the clock runs down.
How about commissioning some original songs? There is a lot of untapped talent out there. And/or hiring a house band to play at these events. Just dont let Joe Scarborough play guitar (or banjo).
Let freedom ring, let the white dove sing
Let the whole world know that today
Is a day of reckoning.
Let the weak be strong, let the right be wrong
Roll the stone away, let the guilty pay
Its Independence Day.
___
Beautiful. Then the President can remind his audience that Juneteenth is the Independence Day Republicans gave Blacks Emancipated from Democrats.
"Start Me Up"- The Rolling Stones
(Just lose Mick Jagger's fruity dancing!)
“Ive seen a lot of apparently decent guys who have their lives ruined by apparently vengeful ex-spouses.”
Never happened with me. In fact, when ending things, it was, “You take that; it means more to you” on both sides. We remained friendly, even though there were no children to make that an issue. I quit-claimed my portion of our home over to him for $1.00 because I didn’t want to deal with lawyers, dividing stuff, etc. (Looking back, that was stupid X3 on my part, but I recovered.) We traded birthday and Christmas cards up until about 2002 when that fizzled out.
All women aren’t evil.
“Lean On Me” would be great.
Lyrics fit the present.
That Stones song sux.
