An assault on an 18-year-old biracial woman in Wisconsin is being investigated as a hate crime after she was set on fire in her car, according to the Madison Police Department.
The victim, Althea Bernstein, told authorities she was stopped at a red light Wednesday with her driver's side window down when she heard someone yell a racial slur. It was at that point that four white men allegedly sprayed a liquid on her face and neck and then threw a flaming lighter at her, which caused the liquid to ignite, according to the incident report.
Scared, Bernstein began to drive and patted out the flames, the report stated. She drove home, where her mother told her to go to the hospital.
At the hospital, she was treated for burns and will need to make follow-up visits for additional medical care, authorities said. Hospital staff, according to police, believe the liquid was lighter fluid.

Yes, what you said. I don’t think it is feasible that they could throw a “flaming lighter” at her, and have it still be flaming on contact.
Hopefully they will be able to find some video cameras that prove that it is a hoax.
I'm going to get out right now and say it's fake. What i've heard of it so far is too ridiculous to believe.
OK I am kind of careless in putting things in and out of the oven, and burn my fingers/hands on the oven door or rack, etc., fairly often (several times a year).
And the burns I get on my hands are worse/deeper than anything she supposedly received with some flammable liquid poured on her? I don’t think so. Also, wouldn’t the lighter fluid or whatever have gotten on her clothing and (1) caused her clothing to ignite and (2) been available as evidence for the police to confirm her story?
“flaming lighter” You have to hold it down. Once, you let go, it is no longer lit. Now, a lit match might make sense but not the lighter.
