PHOENIX – The federal government could give Americans $4,000 apiece to take a vacation if U.S. Sen. Martha McSally’s proposal takes off.

McSally (R-Ariz.) introduced the bill, the American TRIP Act, on Monday, the day before President Donald Trump visits Yuma and Phoenix.

The legislation is meant to act as an incentive to travel domestically. Couples would start at $8,000 in vacation tax credits and receive $500 for each child who is a dependent. Credits would apply for 2020, 2021 and 2022.

“It will also encourage Americans to safely get out of their homes and discover or rediscover Arizona along with the rest of the amazing destinations our country has to offer after a difficult several months stuck inside,” McSally said in a press release.

I thought at first that this was from the Babylon Bee. No wonder her seat is regarded as vulnerable.

"This will require a $6000 tax increase per person, right?"

Not one more penny!! I'm not getting the representation in Congress that I should for the taxes I already pay. I'm stuck with Schumer and Gillibrand, and Brindisi for my Congressman. I'm going out today to vote for Claudia Tenney. She lost that seat two years ago to Brindisi.

“Politically, besides the point that it’s a nutty proposal, the tax credit isn’t refundable so this only benefits people to the extent they pay significant income tax.”

Exactly. They could get an additional tax credit if they took a Social Security recipient with them.

We were going to go to the Grand Canyon. Turns out that many things will still be closed, and while AZ does not have a two-week quarantine for out of state visitors, getting there is going to mean driving from Florida because the airlines have made flying so unpleasant.

Not only do you have to wear a mask and can’t necessarily sit together if you’re traveling with someone else, they no longer serve alcohol or food...you get one small 8.5 oz bottle of water per trip (because they don’t want you to get up to go to the lavatory).

Forget it, going to Georgia, which is more open, has great parks...and I can drive there.

The states need to talk to the airlines, and the airlines need to talk to the states that have those two week quarantines...we were going to go to New Mexico but also cancelled that because of their quarantine.

Even Republicans feel the need to be government “activists” and interventionists

That’s why in most things, there’s very little difference between the Beltway Republicans and Democrats.

So, so, so wrong. Our country needs to invest in producing and protect our most damaged by and at risk from our intentional crashing of the economy—not give out incentives for luxury consuming.

As if Americans haven’t had enough time off already!

I agree. If we’re going to subsidize anything, let it be “subsidies” for returning manufacturing and other economic activity BACK to the USA. Finance this with further and higher tariffs on ALL Chinese imports.

I couldn’t imagine how to spend $8000 on a vacation.

At the end of next week, we’re taking two weeks. It’s the first time in years I’ve taken two solid weeks off.

Part of our trip is $150 for a guided kayak tour. That’s a huge luxury for us.

That said. Senator, not interested.

What? Go see graffiti? Statuary pulled down, destroyed or just plain missing? Go see some painted streets? Have our roadways blocked and have people jumping on our cars and breaking the windows? Perhaps checkout burned out bldgs or boarded up windows? Go where police aren’t allowed to stop crime and are busy bowing and polishing shoes? No thanks.

Can we lose this seat and keep GOP control of the Senate?

She is weak and worthless.

I said weak and worthless.

[[PHOENIX – The federal government could give Americans $4,000 apiece to take a vacation]]

They only gave Americans $1200 when the were out of work for 2-3 months (Nowhere near enough to make up for the lost wages), and now she wants to give $4000 just to ‘go have fun;?
