‘Juneteenth’ Coverage on MSNBC and CNN Explodes in 2020 After Years of Near Silence
Washington Free Beacon ^ | June 19, 2020 | David Rutz

Discussion on CNN and MSNBC of "Juneteenth," the June 19 commemoration of the effective end of slavery in the United States, has exploded nearly 1,200 percent in 2020 compared with previous years.
.
.
.
On June 17, 2018, MSNBC weekend host Alex Witt became the first white cable anchor to mention the holiday during the period examined by the Free Beacon. She admitted to Sharpton, who had discussed Juneteenth during a monologue on PoliticsNation, that she had never heard of it.

"I loved learning about the meaning of June, uh, what's it, 19th? Juneteenth! That is extraordinary," she said during a live toss between their programs. "I had no idea. It's something to celebrate across this land. It's an amazing date."

It’s almost as big as Kwanzaa.

I understand MSNBC and CNN will also be showcasing Kwanzaa all month this December, including rolling out a newly updated Rudolpf the Racially-oppressed Reindeer holiday special.

I don’t, either. Can’t we wipe this from history, too?

***the June 19 commemoration of the effective end of slavery in the United States***

Bunkum. Slavery did not end in some of the slave states that remained in the Union until Dec 1865, when the 13th Amendment was ratified.

And slavery among the High Plains Indian tribes did not end until the 1880s.

I honestly never even heard of this ‘Juneteenth’ business until they started pimping it somewhere in the news earlier in the week. It must not be of much import to your rank and file blacks, either, or at least it wasn’t until now. I’ve lived on the GA/AL border for 21 years, and one would think that there would have been some mention of it before now. For that matter, Kwanzaa gets less notice here than National Arbor Day. It has the ‘1619 Project’ aroma to it.

I work at a Dow 30 company for 20 years

this morning we had an 8 minute moment of silence in the start up meeting for Juneteenth for the first time...

90% of us were like WTF?

The whole world has gone woke

I have no problem celebrating the freeing of slaves, but where did this Juneteenth stuff come from seemingly overnight? Never heard of it at all until a day or two ago, and I’m a pretty avid news reader.

It’s pure opportunism, strike while the race riots are hot.
If it were important enough for a national holiday, why didn’t King Obama say so?

An eight minute moment of silence for Juneteenth? Never heard of it before. Bizarre.

Because for King Obama, it was too trivial an event for him to be bothered with it, if he was even aware of it at all. You’d think he’d have exploited it for maximum effect and reward. Just goes to show that Bathhouse Barry was too narcissistic to see a good divide and conquer opportunity present itself at his feet.

Trump should push to make this a national holiday - it commemorates the freeing of slaves by a Republican president, over the objections of Democrats, and Trump is just the man to hammer that point home.

It’s been strictly a Texas commemoration until this year.

OK, who in Texas decided to stir the ethnic shitpot just in time for the easing up of virus lockdowns? Have you noticed a pattern of all of this happening in succession since Trump was elected?

Hispanic citizens and voters, outnumber blacks in the country. So, Hispanics should be demanding their own holiday to recognize the contributions of that ‘minority’ to the country.

Muslims might be getting ready to do their own campaign for a holiday to honor Mohammed. If they do, they’ll get it, mark my words.
