“We’ve concluded, at the time Mr. Brooks was shot, that he did not pose an immediate threat of death or serious physical injury to the officer or officers,”

you’ve concluded foolishly, then; do you people think a taser is not a serious threat to health...?

Oh I didn’t hear he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. What was the charge?

“One thing that bothers me is they talked to him for 41 minutes before they tried to arrest him.”

Usual and not uncommon.

“The preceding conversation was apparently good-natured and cheerful,”

Nice diversion, aimed at distracting the police as he looks for a way out.

“then everything suddenly turns bad?”

Just *poof* it turns bad? No sir, not what the video shows.

Compliant but when attempting to place him under arrest HE, HE started to fight the officers.

“Then when Brooks was shot and on the ground, they kick him and stand on his shoulder?”

You have no idea if he is hurt, dead or waiting to ambush you. You approach cautiously and take steps to verify the thug/criminal is no longer a threat. Then you secure him, fast.

(He is a threat, he fought them after all).

“Also neglecting to get him medical attention for several minutes. “

Not several minutes, a little over 2-minutes, not several minutes. They did not delay beyond what was reasonable.

Again, the guy is down but is he REALLY? You don’t know. Verify, secure the scene, make sure he is no longer a threat, and then make sure an angry mobs is not about to jump in, jump you. If you shoot a deer, bear or a boar, or whatever, first thing you do is not let your guard down.

You approach cautiously and poke the target to see if you get a response. Too many times hollywood makes movies that show a guy goes down immediately after being shot (usually once). This doesn’t happen in real life unless the guy gets hit in a very vital area.

Given the circumstances, calling for medical attention took place rather quickly.

Fort those that missed the earlier post:

“Shooting someone in the back is unjustified, unless they were charging at someone with the intent to maim/kill”

3:24 mark, explains how shooting someone in the back can happen. It’s all reaction time.

Wouldn’t want to be a white cop in a city where I would have to arrest black folk right now.

This is nothing but a political charge.

All of these last several cases are political charges. I haven't seen a case with much merit yet.

Here’s what to think. This prosecution is mob justice and an outrage. Instead of being charged, the cop should be receiving a medal!

Unjustified. He was running away and was NOT a threat. It’s not hard to comprehend if you would use your brain a little.

I agree that these charges might mean an aquittal. If the jury has the option of lower charges, then maybe it won’t mean an acquittal, but we will see. There might be a plea deal.

Huh? You posted a video of a completely different case. I was asking if there was video of the officers restraining the perp after he was shot, and video of him being shot.

Good luck to Atlanta staffing their police department after this.

With the six officers fired with the 2 students in the car about two weeks ago and now this. That's eight officers fired. Off the books. All that money spent on training etc, gone.

The officer did not have a choice. There was an outstanding warrant for his arrest and it came up during the records search.

We can expect in a small town where everyone knows everyone else, their kids go to school together and they see each other every Sunday morning that some kind of ride home might be arranged. But it is my understanding that ATL has a pretty tight policy about DUI; if true, once Brooks blew over the limit it was a done deal.

It has been reported that Brooks missed a parole appointment a few months ago. Did your source for the warrant information indicate at what point that info was conveyed to the officers?

One would think that info would have precluded the DUI determination, perhaps the officers were stalling for arrival of additional backup.

Now you’re throwing around “racist” like the left I see.
I’m siding with common sense here. Shooting someone running away who is not a threat is NOT JUSTIFIED unless you reasonably believed that he was about to harm someone. Then use of force is justified.
I get the fact that he was a POS and fought with cops, that doesn’t mean it’s open season on someone. A taser isn’t a lethal weapon, his partner was right there with him for back up.
He was rightfully charged—end of story.
