The Supreme Court on Monday declined to hear the administration’s challenge to California’s main sanctuary city law protecting illegal immigrants, dealing a significant blow to President Trump’s hopes of forcing jurisdictions to cooperate with ICE.

The justices did not offer comment on their decision, though two — Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel A. Alito Jr. — said they wanted to hear the case. It takes four justices to put a case on the court’s calendar......."

They voted against hearing the Trump Administration’s appeal. Only Justices Alito and Thomas backed the President.

All Trump needs to do is shut the money spicket off. No federal money to sanctuary cities period!

Exactly why do you think the immigration laws can’t be enforced? The SC let stand a ruling that let Cali not cooperate with ICE - the ruling of the 9th circuit had nothing to do with immigration laws. The immigration laws can be enforced 24/7. Sure, it’s harder this way, but the federal government can enforce everyone of its laws.

Maybe, but this ruling had to do whether or not Cali had to cooperate with ICE and it confirmed the 9th circuit court that the answer is no. Perhaps, federalism is involved in this ruling???

Regardless, DACA is not even an exec order - it is a memo that I don't even think comes from Obama. So, can Trump repeal something like that? It would appear so, but we will find out. DACA is a completely different animal.

“Sure, it’s harder this way......”

That is an understatement, mine may be an overstatement, but if you remove local law cooperation federal efforts will be swamped. ICE relies heavily on Local cooperation to find illegal entrants to the US including some really nasty criminals and gangsters that come into the local legal system.

Those coming to the US illegally will gravitate to areas most permissive to them. They will find ways to get there and local governments help them when they get here.

California has set themselves up as an area where the federal laws on immigration basically don’t apply to them. That is the effect and the intent of not cooperating with ICE. The 9th ruled in their favor and the SCOTUS denied the Petition for certiorari and that means the ruling of the 9th stands.

Yes, I agree with everything you stated. It makes it much harder and it isn't as effective, but the government can still arrest and deport. They still can go into the courthouse and arrest and isn't the court docket public?

I know that ICE will arrest fewer this way, but they can still enforce immigration law as best they can. It isn't ideal, but let's do what liberals do - never give up.

When they have setbacks, they keep on pushing and pushing and pushing. They have patience and will wait years, even decades to get what they want and eventually they do.

I recall past decades in which the SC would refuse to hear liberal cases and liberals were relieved since they knew they would lose and hope that in a different year, the verdict may be different.

Eventually, one of the circuit courts will rule that the state must cooperate. The SC always takes cases in which different circuit courts contradict each other. That will happen in this case somewhere down the road and then we can see if patience was advised.

Also interesting was the SUPREMEs vote on firing of a transgender person with Roberts and Gorsuch joining the 6 to 3 majority.

It appears Chief Justice Roberts was on the wrong side again. The new Earl Warren.

Worse than Warren. We need at least two more real conservatives on the court or we're finished.

In effect the SCOTUS rules “sanctuary city” bosses can defy the government and refuse to obey the law if they disagree with it.

Then this mean I can defy the government and refuse to obey the law about my personal concerns as a Deplorable and a patriot. Now I know./s

“What happened to Gorsuch and Kavanaugh?”

They are high-fiving on how they fooled everyone.

The last solid conservative justice we got was Alito.

Trump will have to stop mentioning Gorsuch and Kavanaugh at his rallies. They are not reliable.

If the SCOTUS can rule that state sanctioned homicide of the innocent is a "womans right to choose", then they could certainly endorse sanctuary cities,

for what it's worth, they could decide that the constitution is invalid and should be replaced with a McDonald's menu

Took 244 years, but Satan has finally taken down the greatest country the world ever saw.

Me? I am preparing for war.

I would farther die fighting than end up a slave to communism.

OK, here’s what Trump does.

After the election, no negotiations, just cut off the sanctuary cities until they cough up their illegals to the feds.

If the Supreme Court doesn’t like it, we dare them to rule against Trump on this. Get them on paper with their shameful opinions.
