A new CBS poll released Monday found 55 percent of Americans support either restrictions on abortion or a ban on the procedure entirely.
The telephone poll surveyed the views of 1,309 Americans, including 454 Democrats, 331 Republicans, and 524 independents.
The results indicated that, while 43 percent of participants said abortion should be generally available, 55 percent said the procedure should be restricted or completely banned, including 31 percent who said it should be available but under limits, and 24 percent who said it should not be permitted at all.
With political party as a factor, only 20 percent of Republicans said abortion should be generally available, while 66 percent of Democrats and 39 percent of independents said the same.
On the issue of abortion restrictions, 44 percent of Republicans, 21 percent of Democrats, and 31 percent of independents agreed with limits on the procedure.
A ban on abortion was seen favorably by 35 percent of Republicans, 12 percent of Democrats, and 27 percent of independents.

I kinda wish it was higher than 55 percent but that’s a majority at least.
I am being honest. I don’t see a supreme court that would reverse it
But a lot of lives can be saved at the state level.
And we can pray for the SCOTUS to come to its senses if it takes a case
Another way to write the headline would have been “74% of Americans think abortion should be available, either generally or with limits”
CBS?!
Whoa.
I wonder how many support forcing those who oppose abortions to pay for them. Likely a very small percentage, concentrated among those with political power.
Its been that way forever. The dumb masses support more restrictions than the Courts have allowed, but not bans on first trimester abortions. Each side spins the poll numbers that result from that to show what they want.
You could be right. But I think that just makes it clear how completely political the supreme court is. As a point of law, the Constitution really doesn't have language on this, one way or another. I do not see how either a Federal ban, or a Federal allowance can stand up. It should be a State issue and states should decide one way or another. On moral grounds, I would hope that all states would ban abortion. But, as a political matter, I'm sure a lot of states would not.
But I definitely think the Supreme Court should reverse Roe v Wade and step away from the whole issue.
Even in a skewed poll the truth comes out!!!
Great post
sums things up
Because Black Lives are precious.
Only if you do not believe that LIFE begins at conception.
Good one!
Those statistics may be changing after this past week or so.
Per what I posted on a thread a few days ago: “I was talking to a couple of folks yesterday about abortion. Ive known them for years. Theyve always been very conservative and maintained an anti-abortion position. After the events of the past week, theyre reconsidering their position on the issue even though they still agree abortion is evil. As one of em put it: Id rather see em legally ripped in pieces from the womb now than to have to kill em in the streets in order to save the country in the future. I was shocked and taken back by his statement. I just walked away shaking my head. I must admit; his statement certainly gave me pause to think...”
Its a moral question, and we may well be winning the moral war on abortion. I agree, I dont see a SCOTUS with the courage to do anything on abortion, but I can see a point where people will realize that abortion is murder and an immoral act.
55 percent is what they reported....you can bet the wording of the poll was such as to get the result that would fit their narrative This is a big problem for the gems!!!!
gems= dems
