“The martyrdom of George Floyd gave the American experience a moment of national anguish,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Tuesday, including the Minnesotan who died in police custody among her list of “names of martyrdom.”
At a press conference introducing Democrats’ “Justice in Policing Act,” Pelosi said that she and her colleagues knelt for more than eight minutes on Monday because Floyd’s death was “a continuation of some horror” that has been long-present in America:

George Floyd is not a martyr. He was not actively engaged in some cause for which he gave his life.
He was murdered after a confrontation with police. It had nothing to do with his beliefs.

2: a person who sacrifices something of great value and especially life itself for the sake of principle
They gave less respect to the death of President Reagan, who won the greatest landslide (49 states) in US history.
