NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Following more than a week of protests over the death of George Floyd in police custody in Minnesota, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Sunday a series of police reforms in New York City.

The reforms come at the suggestion of the mayor’s task force on racial inclusion, which is co-chaired by first lady Chirlane McCray.

De Blasio said the city will be moving funding from the NYPD to youth initiatives and social services.

“The details will be worked out in the budget process in the weeks ahead. But I want people to understand that we are committed to shifting resources to ensure that the focus is on our young people,” de Blasio said.

The mayor said that any decision about funding must also ensure the safety of New Yorkers.

can any republican stand a chance for election?

Nope, not against AOC’s mayoral campaign. What is there any other wingnut that could fill Bill’s tiny shoes?

He's already put his forgetful wife in charge of two do-good govt offices......
(A) mental health reform (where she "forgot: where she put $800 million tax dollars) and
(B) racial equity......
(C) now the Mayor’s Task Force on Racial Inclusion is the third office his wife will be running with no oversight!

Actually it's the fourth govt office run with tax dollars that DeBlasio put his wife in charge of.

Just after he took office, he put his wife in charge of "The Mayor's Fund for New York" which receives non-stop tax dollars to "do-good" for NYC.....cackle.

Looks like De Stupido is going to take NYC back to the bad old days of the early 90’s when there were 2000 murders a year in NYC.

“I thought it was an unwinnable battle,” admitted current NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce, who worked in the 75th Precinct and the neighboring — and equally dangerous — 73rd during the early ’90s. “We were taking guns off the street every night.”

But now, about a quarter-century later, the 75th has logged 11 homicides so far this year, or less than 10 percent of the 126 total it recorded for 1993, the first year for which the NYPD has precinct-level data.

And the entire city — which notched a modern-era record 2,245 murders in 1990 — had logged only 271 this year as of Dec. 12."

"It's my understanding he can't run for another term."

Maybe Bill de Blasio is setting up his black wife, Chirlane, as the next mayor. She's smart, educated at Wesleyan, is a poet and speech writer and is well versed in the duties of a mayor and campaigning.

She is a former self-admitted lesbian....now a mother. She wrote "I Am A Lesbian" for a 1979 Essence magazine issue.

She is of African heritage (Ghana). She went to Ghana in 2012 to trace her roots.

She is 5'6"...her husband, the Mayor (his real name is William Wilhelm), is 6'5". She is 65 years old, 6 years older than Mayor Wilhelm.

She has already said "perhaps, perhaps" when asked if she would run for mayor in 2021.

My feeling is, that given the electorate in NYC, she would be elected in a walk.

She's already Co-Mayor with de Blasio....if she were elected it would be Mayor Chirlane de Blasio with William De Blasio as Co-Mayor.

This Odd Couple has been feeding off the public trough for 8 years, and another de Blasio mayorship would be a lovely dessert for the next 8 years.

I think she “lost” like a billion dollars in one scheme she was put in charge of.

Now she’s in charge of the racial coronavirus task force or some such nonsense :)

The coronavirus may not be biased but that strep, I’ve talked to them and they won’t change their ways.

The other bacteria and viruses are on the fence and waiting to see what happens :)

Yep. It’s amazing how money can disappear so easily from leftists and absolutely nothing happens to them. Trumps charity buys a painting for the office and it gets closed down. The Clinton foundation makes $3.4 BILLION in Haitian aid money completely disappear and absolutely nothing happens. Hey it’s only $3.4 BILLION that was earmarked for Haitians left homeless and hungry by the earthquake, but Trump is the racist against black people.

This is accelerate the decline and fall of New York City. What thinking parent will send a kid to a school in NYC where the police are seen as the enemy by a communist mayor? Wait to insurance rate go up because of “Ify” police protection. The NYC fiscal year starts on July 1. Wait til the new tax levels come up. This is disgusting. Lifelong NYCer here and sick of this crap.

Bill de Blasio (not his birth name) is a criminal himself. Stole at least $800 million and working on stealing more. Of course he wants to defund the police!
