George Washington’s Virginia church taking down his memorial

A church attended by George Washington will take down a memorial to the nation's first president, a move church leaders say is intended to make the place of worship more welcoming.

The Washington Times reported Friday that Christ Church in Alexandria, Va., will remove memorials of Washington and former Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee, which stand on either side of the church's altar.

“The plaques in our sanctuary make some in our presence feel unsafe or unwelcome," church leaders said. "Some visitors and guests who worship with us choose not to return because they receive an unintended message from the prominent presence of the plaques.”

Washington began attending the church soon after it opened in 1773, and bought a pew there. He attended for more than 20 years, though he appeared more regularly at Pohick Church, southwest of his estate at Mount Vernon.

Christ Church's decision to remove the statues comes amid a national debate over whether Confederate statues and monuments should be taken down. That debate resurfaced in August after a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Va., turned violent.

While that debate has focused primarily on Confederate memorials, President Trump suggested shortly after the Charlottesville protests that taking down some memorials would eventually lead to statues of Washington or Thomas Jefferson being removed as well.

If they take down the cross and any pictures of Jesus, will that make the church more ‘welcoming’?

We have lost the culture war. I am spending time weekly at the local pistol range. In preparation for the next war.

And it is YOU and your ilk with your waffling doubts..

For three days we were told they were going to be a million feral savages coming to DC yesterday. How many people on our side showed up to protect our institutions? had these bastards actually showed up would the White House still be there? The Capitol? The Monuments? I get your anger it is mine too. I would hope and pray most will realize that if the rats win in November it’s over if we let it stand and don’t take action. We have let a generation of Americans get brainwashed whose side will they take?

Do they feel unsafe with the dollar bills in their pocket???

Good point. Several years ago a friend took us to a stand famous for its barbecue sauce. The owner, who claimed to be an Indian had his stand covered in anti-Andrew Jackson screeds. But he still accepted the twenty for his sauce.

Nothing could be more true. The building is not the church. The accoutrements are not the church.
The people are the church. Obviously, this is not the church of Washington and Lee.

Taking down monuments and changing names because the person so honored owned slaves will not change U.S. history. The people who owned slaves whose names and statues are now not PC were acting within the norms of their own times. It is ridiculous to judge them by today’s behavioral norms. Only idiots and libtard-fogged fools would suddenly “be outraged” at statues which had sat there for a hundred years. They are a part of our history, which cannot be changed. It happened. Revising history is always dangerous; George Santayana famously said, “Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

Leftist progressives are determined to change that quotation words to “Those who CANNOT REMEMBER...” by effectively eliminating the past. If you erase the past, destroy all records of its actual existence from the people’s memories, make sure that no one passes it on, then they literally will not remember when they were free.

It won’t be long until they burn the House of Burgesses and Governor’s Mansion in Williamsburg will be next. Plow Yorktown under, along with Fredricksburg, Richmond, Shiloh, Alexandria, and the Adam Thoroughgood House. Go ahead and destroy it all. After all, you’re no different that the people that burned books in Germany in the 1930s or the people that blew up the remains of the Babylonian and Sumerian cultures in the past decade. It suits you to deny your past, and therefore be condemned by your own ignorance.

For three days we were told they were going to be a million feral savages coming to DC yesterday.

You know, gibsonguy, I simply don’t see “a million feral savages” that you see. I’ve been watching very carefully, and I see a lot of pretty peaceful marchers protesting something they feel very passionately, of possibly mistakenly about because they’ve been lead there by a feral press, but not violently.

I DO see a very small minority of ANTIFA thugs fomenting organized violence and rioting generating the generalized chaos among those who really wanted to demonstrate.

Adding a large group of patriotically minded forces in support of President Trump and anti-violence into that mix would be counter productive, due to the fact that is exactly what the ANTIFA proponents were wanting exactly that confrontation. THAT WOULD HAVE DEVOLVED into a generalized melee of violence between Antifa and counter-forces trying to protect what they were trying to destroy, sparking exactly what we do not want right now, especially with those thousands of generally peaceful demonstrators there, unprepared for such a disaster in their midst.

You do not throw gasoline on the fire when those protesting think they have a legitimate grievance. If and/or when it does happen, we have to be seen obviously occupying the moral high ground. During this George Floyd debacle, the perception would we we would not be doing so. We’d be painted as being anti-protest, not anti-violence, anti-destruction, and pro-peaceful resolution.

We were forced to drop The High Holy Days services because the flaming Libtard rabbi kept damning Trump.

I didn’t say there was, I said we told there would be for the three days leading up to it. Thankfully it was nothing like that. And I am glad our side had the foresight to sense it was not going to what was predicted. If Trump is serious about doing something about the Soros backed revolutionary’s this thing can get diffused. This pallets of bricks and boxes of fire bombs didn’t show up in the riot zones by magic.

I now wonder what our side will do as this continues. This country is rotting away locally as fast as it is nationally. I wonder if there is anything we can do besides unlikely secession and armed rebellion. Election victories are becoming slimmer and Trump and/or Senate losing will be devastating.

No, they didn’t. There is something evil going on, and I think Trump and his people are on top of it.

But that would be Texas, right? If so, I think you Texicans are about as safe as we Bama folk are.

Look, I will make this perfectly clear to all doubters. ALL southerners are not racist. Just because I am a southerner and from the state of Alabama makes me no more a racist than I am a kitchen sink. I live by my Christian values, treat everyone the same. My thing is I will treat someone as they treat me. Treat me with kindness and respect and I will do the same to you. That simple. That is the way my old Mom taught me. I grew up in the south during the 1950s and 1960s. I lived not far from where the bus was set afire back in the 60s that was carrying all the civil rights people. I was a kid. But, my father was a working man, worked in a factory with all kinds. I knew black people as a child. We lived next door to a store where the two men in the stock room were black. I knew them both. I went over next door all the time to talk to them and watch them unload stuff. They were kind to me and I learned that from them. I did not hate James Littlejohn or his sidekick Willie, because they were black. I liked them because they were good men. I know some really sorry and good for nothing white, blacks and others that I dealt with in the military. I don't judge you on your color. I judge you on how you behave and treat me. Simple as that folks. Treat everyone like that and I think we could improve this country a bit.

What utter hogwash. Does anyone truly believe that line of crap? "Oh, I went to services but then I saw a couple of plaques up front and I was so offended that I couldn't bear to come back."

Uh ... sure. But if you saw a homo flag, it would be okay.

The moment I read what was occurring I said to myself, “It’s got to be an Episcopal Church.” It is. The congregation, likely composed in the main of lesbians and homosexuals who deny the Trinity, probably is a fraction of what it was thirty years ago. Fortunately, the Episcopal Church should be out of business in twenty years.

We are going the way of South Africa, without putting up a fight. These demonstrations brought out commies, libs and socialists all over the world.
