CNN)The former Minneapolis Police officer who pressed his knee into George Floyd's neck was charged with second-degree murder and the three other officers on scene during his killing were charged with aiding and abetting, according to court documents. Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison's official announcement of the charges is expected to come Wednesday afternoon, more than a week after Floyd was killed while in police custody in Minneapolis. The killing has sparked nationwide protests that call for the end to police violence against black citizens. Derek Chauvin, who had his knee pressed into Floyd's neck for nearly nine minutes, had previously been charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. The new second-degree murder charge says that he killed Floyd "without intent to effect the death of any person, while committing or attempting to commit a felony offense ... namely assault in the third degree," according to an amended complaint. Thomas Lane and J. Alexander Keung, who helped restrain Floyd, and Tou Thao, who stood near the others, were not initially charged. Lane, 37, Kueng, 26, and Thao, 34, are now charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter.

That’s right, and that’s what’s going to happen.
I hope that they can detain without killing someone that is handcuffed. But I also expect a pull back on enforcement by cops of all colors after this.
“Just dont overcharge...”

You’re being naïve. Ellison’s is a Marxist w/ties to both the Muslim Brotherhood and Antifa. His objective is to keep things stirred up for as long as possible; at least until the election. By overcharging, resulting in a hung jury or acquittals, he accomplishes that. I’m sure they will pick one juror who will guarantee that.
If Derek Chauvin was the Cop in charge / on scene and was following Dept. policy with that knee to the neck as reported (as bad as it was) I can see the other three Cops getting off or possibly reduced sentences if allowed by law.(let the riots start again) Chauvin is a dead man walking one way or another.
You say that like it's a bad thing.
what the hell were the other officers supposed to do against the SENIOR officer??
Protect a life.
If you want to read some thoughts about the upcoming prosecution and about Keith Ellison himself, there’s an excellent Minnesota blogger. Go here:

Agreed. But if a jury fails to convict, that would be provocation for another round of rioting and virtue signaling. Ellison doesn't see a downside. Justice is secondary here. The primary purpose is to have democrats frothing at the mouth when they go to the polls, because a bad police killing in a democrat city in a democrat state is obviously Donald Trump's fault.
> This is the muzzlime racist AG Keith Ellison trying for overkill <
I just heard Ellison speak live on TV. He didnt say his goal was justice. He said that his goal was justice for George Floyd. Thats a significant difference.
By the way, I do believe that the cop committed a serious crime. But Im just some guy on a discussion board. Ellison is the Attorney General. He talks like the cop has already been found guilty, and its time for the sentencing phase.
Do you mean the mob here on FR?
I agree.
The new second-degree murder charge says that he killed Floyd “without intent to effect the death of any person, while committing or attempting to commit a felony offense ... namely assault in the third degree,”

Well, since their police manual instructs them that the knee on the neck is the way to restrain someone on drugs, they’re going to have a hard time proving “assault.” It seems to me they’d have a far better case with third degree murder, charging the policeman with depraved indifference to life.
I thought that also but I do still feel that they should all be charged.
“*Killing a human intentionally, but without premeditation (not thinking about or preparing for before)...”
Cop had 8-9 minutes to meditate/prepare for what he was doing.
True.Assuming convictions one can imagine appeals being filed in Federal court.Of course the state courts will be stacked against them.
I heard this morning that the family wanted them all charged before they had a memorial service shortly. They ask and the DA responds. Politics and rioting and protesting does make a difference.
None of these cops knew that morning how their lives would be changed over a counterfeit $20 and video, and neither did the Mr Floyd. I will forever believe that we need a national data base where crooked or abusive police will be recorded. There are issues that need to protections too. Too many cops that have behavior issues are able to move from one jurisdiction to another. They need the right to appeal etc but it needs to follow them. Policing has become a more demanding job and there will be consequences to the public and police.
I honestly think that they SHOULD be charged. They had to know he was killing the guy. They should have made him get off.
It wont be.
Racist jurors have become a problem in high profile cases
