Forget about a fair trial

”Just skip the trial and lynch him now. This is apparently how it’s done in America these days.”

You’re exactly right. The victimhood/diversity industry has almost erased the concept of equal justice under the law. The left thinks “justice” means that they get what they want, otherwise there is injustice. We can all see where this is headed, as with past similar incidents. In the minds of the lynch mob, the trial is a meaningless formality. They’ve already convicted this guy (and I’m not saying he isn’t likely guilty) in the “court of public opinion”, and nothing less than a guilty verdict and execution in the public square will be acceptable to them.

This is also a typical leftist no-win scenario. If they hadn’t arrested and charged the officer (and now the other three), the riots just continue. If they now acquit the cop(s), the riots rage again. If they convict him (them), but the punishment meted out by the court is inadequate in the minds of the mob, more riots. And no matter what happens, even if they give the mob everything they want in this situation, it will do nothing to quiet their absurd claims of “systemic racism.”

Melissa Francis actually had a good, tactical question for Juan Williams this morning when they were discussing alleged “systemic racism.” She asked him to name something specific and tangible that we can do to address the “problem.” He stumbled around searching for an answer, and then spouted more vague generalities. She kept at it, saying we all want to address this problem, now how do we do that? He still couldn’t come up with a coherent answer. THAT may be the best way to attack this insanity: Accept their premise and then ask for specific measures they expect us to take.

The result, as with Juan, is likely to be initially a few specifics related to this particular incident, like changes in police policy, etc., but if we keep pushing for specifics on their larger blanket claim of “systemic racism” that they imagine is everywhere, they can’t really respond. They don’t really want to give very many specific suggestions because THEY DON’T WANT TO SOLVE THE IMAGINED PROBLEM. They just want to create an unending imaginary issue, to be used as a cudgel to beat political opponents (white, conservative, straight, Christians) over the head with. And it also serves as a shield to protect blacks from honest examination of their own contribution to their problems.

I read the actions taken by the cop (the restraining procedure) was mandated after reading it was not. This is important since if it was a legal restraint the other officers on the scene cannot have been responsible for any crime.

Also there were two autopsies performed, one by the State and one by the family of the victim. The State autopsy concluded the victim had heart problems and he was loaded up with Fentanyl while the families autopsy concluded he died of suffocation.

Not sure how guilt established beyond a reasonable doubt happens in this politically charged case.

“This is important since if it was a legal restraint the other officers on the scene cannot have been responsible for any crime.”

Not so. Precedent for this was established for LAPD and NYPD in the not unrelated chokehold. Officers and departments started finding out in the 80s and 90s that just because your department let you use a chokehold and put it in the training manual, it did not mean that you wouldn’t be charged and convicted of murder/wrongful death should you misuse it and the person in custody died. This is why LAPD, after trying to restrict it, retrain on it, put even more strict limits on time compressing the blood vessels in the neck, finally gave up and banned the chokehold/sleeper hold.

George H.W. Bush started it with his Federal charges of the Rodney King policemen, IMO.

If I remember correctly the case similar to this in NYC not long ago resulted in the charged cop(s) being acquitted. The guy who died was cited for selling cigarettes and put up a fight when officers went to arrest him. He was grossly overweight and when they wrestled him to the ground his heart gave out. He also had pre existing conditions

Yeah, the Garner case. The city settled the wrongful death case for $5.9M and the officer was fired. However, the first cause of death was actually listed as the chokehold by the ME: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Eric_Garner

Why wasn’t the officer who applied the choke hold put on trial? If he is a murderer why was he only fired?

That is a given. They should have thought about that. Although I do believe if they had a chance at a do over, they would jump at it.

And it still would not be enough for the BLM or Antifa crowds.

Since the system is a joke and a game why don't we just charge all four with first degree murder along with their families generations deep like Stalin. Have a show trial conducted by BLM. Antifa would execute them with bricks live on TV and all social media. America can then celebrate this great victory and proclaim a week long riot and looting holiday!

The Freeper lynch mob should be very happy. Screw law and order and the process of the legal system. Politicians,Social media and mob rule are now the new American pillars of justice. NOBODY said this incident was just but it is not even remotely close to destroying the nation in so many ways in a very flawed martyr whose death has now cost countless lives including DAVID DORN. I guess his life doesn't matter.

Correct. These radical socialists around the world are rioting and attacking people. To them it is not black lives matter it is a revolution looking to overthrow duly elected governments.

DA’s office did a half-arsed job of presenting the case to a grand jury instead of charging him themselves. (Thing is, unless it’s blatantly obvious that someone is totally, completely innocent, it is a truism that a DA can get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich. Pantaleo wasn’t anywhere near that innocent; this sort of gambit is often done to get around being responsible for the charges and lets the DA point at the grand jury and blame them instead.) This was probably deliberately as the NYC DA, as with many DAs, tries to avoid prosecuting cops as much as possible. Even the dirty ones.
