If you have to rack it, you deprived yourself of one shell and advertise that you keep your shotgun with an empty chamber. Also slowed yourself down. Shotgun should be kept fully loaded, chamber loaded, safety on - all you should have to do is flip off the safety and go to town.
Then again, my experience with the LA Riots told me that maybe something like a Saiga 12 is a better option than a pump gun like a Mossberg 500 in this kind of scenario. 20+ rounds of 12 gauge, no waiting.
I agree. I believe that’s enough of a deterrent that these POS won’t try to find out if you would use it. Also, it is good to have friends or family helping. If they see 10 people armed I don’t think that they would even look your way. Of course these rats don’t think normally.

I think if I was a shop owner I would think off some kind of booby trap for when they smash in the windows and come in the store. Nothing lethal but maybe tear gas or something, pepper spray I don’t know.
