I once attended a sporting event at a stadium in Korea, and was surprised to see everyone carry out their own trash when it ended. It’s a cultural thing.

But, if people were going to these scenic spots and found that the state-maintained bathrooms were closed for their protection... but they had to go... Disgusting, but predictable.

Usher type people go up and down the stands periodically throughout the game to collect trash passed their way.
There is very little to clean up when the game is over, but they do it anyway. Very pleasant experience.

Question: did California close their public bathrooms?
In some areas, liberals in power closed down public bathrooms citing the inability to sanitize them. If they set up a portapotty, it may not be maintained or enough for demand.
Did their government cause the public defecation by denying people adequate facilities?

(*) - there have been a couple of notable exceptions where I've gotten ah ... "significantly off-trail" due to the trail being poorly marked. Then again, I tend to like the trails less traveled so that's a hazard when they aren't popular, well-marked, nor well-worn. I've never been lost - I'm pretty good at map and terrain reading so I always know about where I'm at. But I have been at a loss as to where the $@@!^&)? trail went. When it comes to trail maps they are not all created equal - many only provide the roughest approximation of where the trail is.
