Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) will announce today that he is working with Republican members of the House Judiciary Committee to craft legislation that would strip social media giants of their Section 230 legal immunity if they fact check content on their platforms, according to a copy of his podcast which Breitbart News exclusively obtained.

On the Florida conservative’s podcast, Hot Takes with Matt Gaetz, he said that he is working on a bill that would prevent social media giants such as Facebook, Twitter, and Google from fact-checking content on their platforms. Gaetz’s announcement follows as Twitter decided to fact check President Donald Trump’s tweet on Tuesday.

Twitter tried to fact check the president over Trump’s tweet, claiming that mail-in ballot would lead to increased voter fraud.

After Twitter fact-checked Trump’s post, the president threatened to regulate or shut down social media companies such as Facebook and Twitter.

Not much chance this gets out of the house. I thought Trump was looking at action through regulation that wont require new law.

Depends on whether the Twits start fact-checking Democrats too in order to cover their arses legally.

It seems to me when social media begins to fact check then they become fully responsible for everything that is posted from that point forward.

No chance. Deep state owns the media. It”s virtue legislating.

Big Tech owns the Dems so you’re right.

Still would be nice if he can force a vote...

Zero chance.
All Silicon Valley needs to do is throw a 30k donation in the back pocket of anyone on the committee and it will die there.
Google was clearly in violation of Anti Trust but again nothing was ever done.

Strange. Verizon doesn't fact-check anything I say when using their service.

What makes Twitter and Facebook think they're allowed to fact-check anyone using their services?

Oh, yeah. That's right -- leftists...

“I thought Trump was looking at action through regulation that wont require new law.”

Regulations require laws.

The Rats control the House. If they didn't enough gopers would collaborate to block this bill in committee.

It has zero chance of passing, but this avenue needs to be pursued. These creeps were meant to get immunity based on upholding free speech on their platforms. They have failed to do so and have shown themselves willing to be pawns of the ChiComs. As a result, they need to be exposed to legal liability.

Can’t wait to see how they define who this pertains to.

There are plenty of laws that allow agencies to set regulations. Each regulation doesnt necessarily require a law be passed. Agencies have discretion, for better or worse.

Couldn’t the argument already be made that by their actions of censoring and Fact Checking and Misleading notices... is in and of itself Publishing, and the Immunity Clause DOES NOT APPLY Anymore???

Most Laws seem to be written by the lazy bums in Congress to transfer their responsibilities [and blame] to the 4th branch of gov’t.

“As the Agency head shall decide” clauses sprinkled liberally about.

I’m guessing that this is a preliminary, rather mild effort.
It will fail.
Then a more serious effort will be made. The Executive branch should have great power in this area. If the House won’t act, then the FCC or other body will.

Not much chance of this getting out of THIS House. The January 2021 House may be a different matter entirely!
