Dr. Deborah Birx said that it was “difficult to tell” whether a second coronavirus wave in the Fall could cause another national lockdown.
Birx’s Sunday morning interview on ABC’s “This Week” came after President Donald Trump insisted on Thursday that he will not “close” the country if, as Dr. Anthony Fauci expects, cases spike again later this year.

“I think we’re trying to learn right now very carefully about how you reopen safely,” Birx responded when asked by ABC’s Martha Raddatz if that was the “right approach.”
“You know we act like we’ve actually done this before and besides 1918-1919 we’ve not ever closed parts of America and even then the whole country wasn’t closed,” she continued. “We’re trying to understand during this period of coming out of a closure, how do we maintain openness and safety?”
Birx insisted they were “preparing” for a “potential Fall issue” by stockpiling ventilators and PPE and “ensuring that we’re really pushing on therapeutics and vaccine development so we can be ready if the virus does come back in a significant way.”

We are still closed down where I am. Still cannot leave home other that go to get food. Cannot visit family or friends elsewhere. I doubt we will fully reopen.
If the Democrats win everything I think we will be on lockdown forever.
Trump needs to tell the Dems to open up or else.

I just don’t know why scarf lady balks at whether or not the economy shall shut down.
We have learned a lot of things the hard way from this past virus outbreak. First of which....TO NEVER DO IT AGAIN!
But even more, we have learned how to social distance, stay home if vulnerable, damn....even to wash our hands and wear masks if needed.
If there is another outbreak, no need to make us all stay in the house, which we won’t do anyway as we learn the hard way too. Just set up a set up emergency standards in the event of another runaway virus.
Decide who’s most vulnerable and have them...happily....do a quarantine. By fall we’ll probably have a hand-sanitizer wrist band and we’ll all need to wear it. We already know about how far six feet is so part of the emergency procedure would be to start doing it again.
No way will Americans agree to retire to their homes again and damn, I’m sure that not even Cuomo will send virus infected into nursing homes.
I don’t know why they’re even balking at saying there will be no more lock downs.
We did what we did because it was all new to us. We learned that what was supposed to be from the beginning of March until Easter went on for a couple more months. We learned that some of these elected morons loved their new powers. We learned that they almost broke up our right to worship.
We’ll never do it again....UNLESS, of course, the Democrats win.

Governors and in some cases Mayors are in charge of restrictions and reopenings. They put themselves in charge of those things and got away with it.
The people decide whether to abide by restrictions and how and when reopenings take place. When politicians see that enough of the populace has lost patience and will ignore their restrictions, the politicians have folded.
Trump NEVER will let a shutdown happen again under his watch.

We have a similar lock down, but I like others said screw it and do what I want. I still go to my dive bar when every other bar around is closed.
The West never would have been settled had America been obsessed with the false idea of “safety” which dominates leftist minds today. As a matter of fact, the mountains of the Eastern states would never have been crossed—too much danger!
I thought this was the president’s policy? I don’t think he is a leftist. It’s great to do Monday morning quarterbacking isn’t it. Especially when none of us have the through all this. Maybe you and the rest should stop and focus on how the reopening is going.
